Dodgy History Bruv

Here's a fun one: So I bought an ST170 the other day, I bought it simply to break for parts to use on mine. Anyway here's some backstory on the car:
The guy apparently owned it from 2013, 2014 or 2015 depending on which time you asked him, and he bought it for £2500 or £3500 depending on which ad he's quoting, he also apparently spent £4500 on work. Now I asked him about that work and he said tyres, suspension, brakes and rust. Tyres are 9 years old, suspension is so bad that it's collapsed, brakes are all completely shot, and it's never had a rust repair in it's life. Again, I'm not arsed as I bought it for parts and I'm a sucker for the usual Bratford sales pitch. So fast forward to today, I've been helping my mate strip it as he's the one who does all the work to my car, in fact these days he pretty much owns it. Anyway, we're taking the rear seats out and spot a set of plates. Not the same as the car but for another 2003 ST170 in the same colour and spec. Put that along with the impound letter for lack of insurance from 2017 and you've got a Focus with a pretty dodgy history. Do you think that it's the car as advertised but with some false plates for driving uninsured like a cockwomble, or do you think that those are the real plates and it's on false ones now with lower mileage? I don't care for anything other than interest. I wanted to check the VIN but my.dvlasearch seems to be iffy tonight. All the VINs match up, although the one under the drivers carpet looks a little sketchy.
