Difficult choices, advice needed

Morning all, story is looking to get sister a BMW and looking at either the 13 plate 118 with 1.6 engine or possibly the 1.8 petrol

However as she drives 60 miles a day for work would a diesel be better and more economical, I'm just thinking with all the diesel issues - like higher fuel, ulez is the extra coatings worth it

And any known issues I should be thinking about as I'm just hearing stories about problems with the 116i etc...

ORRRRR would a Mk 7 Golf like 1.6tdi be better all rounder? Any known issues with this?

Will your sister be driving into ULEZ area? How much is your sister planning on spending? Does spec or the badge matter more?

wont be driving into Ulez but nice to have the option of not needing to pay as other cars in household are older loll. Plus with the dumb zone expanding might hit other area that need to drive into

Spec wise im looking at auto for ease of driving, badge might matter but depends on price

And price wise about 10k

Alfa Giulietta QV Line is a very hard car to beat at this price point:

Honestly didn't even consider an alfa, will check insurance but dont think it will be cheaper than the BMW or golf

Are there any other types i haven't considered??
