Which of these two cars would you buy?

So basically long story short. I was in a car accident last Sunday and have been given money to spend on a new car. I have came to the conclusion to get one of the following cars that I have listed below. If anyone know knows a bit more than me (most of you) about cars. Please give me your opinion. Thank you

Car 1 - Alfa Romeo Giulietta 2.0

The number plate is visible on the picture too if you wanted to preform a MOT check but it looks like it has had a few failures which have been repaired. Doesn't have a huge list of advisory's like some cars you see. Has around 60mpg (on paper) and 170bhp.

Car 2 - Vauxhall Insignia Exclus 130CDTI

You're not comparing like for like, do you need a larger car or a smaller one? What will it be used for ? Are you a family man do you need space?
Or are these just the two cars you like ?

I"d prefer the Alfa assuming it has a long MOT, but don't bank on 60MPG out of a 9 year old car.

They are not really similar cars! I wouldn't want either with those miles, but if I had to, it'd be the Vauxhall (I can't believe I just typed that!)

It would be the Vauxhall for me, a colleague has an Astra of similar age/mileage and it's served him very well. It also has more space and will be a more comfortable drive than the Alfa (which may/may not be important to you).

I find the diesel auto Insignias to be really nice and smooth to drive. If you want something more Giulietta-sized, the previous-gen Astra is available with the same engine/gearbox combo as the Insignia, but they might be a bit over budget.

If you are looking at a Giulietta, stick with a manual. The autos use a troublesome dual-clutch 'box (TCT) and are to be avoided.

To answer a few questions I have a family and i've drove both cars. My last car that was written off was the same Alfa. I used to own the 2L turbo petrol insignia. Which i loved but this isn't really going to be the same as that, that's my worry.

As above they are very different cars. With 2 kids I'd take the insignia for its size in the back and the larger boot.
If I didn't need the size is go with the Alfa, nicer to drive. Always found the insignia to be one of those cars where you feel disconnected from the driving experience

At 2k they both have big miles which will mean they'll be very close to needing a suspension refresh (or a turbo) which won't be cheap on either car, personally I'd go for something older that's been looked after.

Out of the two it would be the Alfa, but in reality I'd be buying something along the lines of this Alfa:

For me I would choose the Insignia because its a bigger car and therefore more suitable to my needs personally, we have a number of them at work and whilst they are bland they are generally reliable cars and reasonably well built.

That said if you put a Alfa into the mix of similar size to the Insignia, say a 159 I would choose the Alfa

For me i'd go alfa, the vauxhall engine has issues mainly with the oil pick up pipe resulting in the engine seizing up.

I wouldn't be buying a £2K car from a dealer. You're getting £1300 worth of car at best
