Delivery of lease car (problem)

Hi all,
Looking for a little help from those with more knowledge than myself on this matter.
Background:
SWMBO orders a lease car to replace her previous lease car. The car that was due to be returned was due back in January, so she said whilst ordering the new car that she wouldn't take delivery before then. If that was an issue, she wouldn't be ordering the car. "No problem!" says the leasing company.
December rolls around and she's told "delivery of your new car will be 3rd December." Straight on the phone and email (to keep a paper-trail) to inform the leasing company that no it won't be, it will be delivered in January, as per what the lease company agreed. "Sure, sorry, we forgot" says the lease company.
All good for the next few months, car delivered in January. Suddenly, she's got a letter from the finance house (not the lease broker), saying that she's missed a payment. After a frantic phone call, it's transpired the lease company never passed on any information, so the manufacturer expected a payment in December and is chasing her for this now, for not an insignificant amount of money.
There is zilch in her contract about mandatory delivery date.
Anybody got experience with this or what we can expect moving forward?

Show the finance company the delivery paperwork and tell them to bolt.
We do all the delivery paperwork; handily it's all electronic so contains absolutely everything. I'm just not sure saying to the finance house the car wasn't in our possession so we're not liable for that payment. Chillsmith said:

This might be a long shot but have you tried contacting the relevant parties, explaining the situation, seeing what they say and taking it from there?
Yes.Finance house say "we're due money, it needs paid."
Leasing company say "We put a note on your file, the supplying dealer must have ignored it. You need to contact them."
