Hi All,

Ive just been offered the above with 30,000 miles on the clock from a mate at (Potentially mate rates = > he hasnt mentioned money but he wants rid as hes emigrating). I know the history of the car from new and hes been meticulous about his servicing and is a lot more inclined to take the bus to work than it, hence the low mileage. He says its got a Lambo engine and goes like hot st off the back a shovel. Its about 500bhp so hes probably right on that count.

My questions:

1. what would this be valued at, hes says about 30,000 pounds but i cannot seem to find any year 2009 with such loaw mileage.
2. could his lack of driving mean perversely that such a motor is more likely to give out given its lack of use?
3. The adage 'If you could'nt afford it new you cannot afford it now'... springs to mind, now I'm a world away from what i w
as on earnings wise in 2009 but with Q2 in mind, how reliable are these cars? Id imagine the bills are insane to repair etc...
4. If it was cheap could i flip it and make a killing or what is the market like for such a car

Thanks alot in advance.

I don't want to teach anyone to suck eggs here, but have you considered looking at the classifieds on this site? A quick search reveals C6 RS6 models up from between £22k - £26k, although the one you mention appears to have a lower mileage than all those listed, so £30k is top dollar but probably relatively reasonable.

As for the whole 'Lambo engine' thing, that is a bit of a misnomer; components are shared, and they probably have a lot in common but there are some drastic differences. Furthermore its claimed at 572hp - and these lumps can take 750 with relative ease should you be so inclined..!

If you want to make money on it, offer him 18k and budget a little for getting it tip top, then look to sell for 22-25

Fuel and servicing such a beast is never going to be cheap and that’s just a fact. Oil leaks can be a problem. To give you an idea, look at this

https://www.mdmtechnik.co.uk/audi-rs6-c6-5-0-v10-e...

Nice cars though if you can afford to run one

Yeah the lambo engine thing is a bit of a nothing. Still it has a 5lt v10 twin turbo engine. I had the S6, that was fast enough, these are another level. Especially if remapped.

They drink fuel like i drink wine, a lot. I was going through a set if tyres and disks/pads a year. On the RS the front disks and pads are approx £1k.

The engines are generally reliable. They do suffer from the cooking issues as the mileage gets higher. You have to expect the odd silly bill though with these cars. I had a throttle body fail and it was £1k for the part from Audi. Thankfully I found someone who had wrapped their car round a tree and got the part for fifty quid and coded it myself with vcds.

If you like Audis I dont think they come much better than this. Do it, and drive it like you stole it.

If its available at a very good price might be worth it but selling it on might take a while imo.

I'd also advise having a good look at the running costs if you haven't already if you are thinking of keeping it.

Amazing cars but If you're in the least worried about running costs or big bills stay well clear. Seriously.

They don't have a Lambo engine yes they both have 5.2 engines but that's about it, these can be huge money pits but you knowing the history of this car is a big bonus.

My friend still shudders at the running costs of his, it seemed to be engine out every time it had a problem. Read the owners threads on here.

Engine out every time is akin to the C5 RS6 too.

I’d love a C6 RS6 but seeing it on Autocar recently in a drag race v Porsche and Merc E63 it was destroyed and way below standard performance stats

They’re pretty cool cars but the running costs are/can be brutal. As already mentioned, fuel goes in and doesn’t last very long; my uncle who had one used to joke about covering his ears when his local, friendly Shell garage told him how much money he had to hand over.

He didn’t keep it long after a monster £7k bill from Audi. Can’t remember exactly what needed doing but I know there was a minor oil leak plus four new discs and pads and callipers all round. If you decide to buy it, just go in with your eyes open.

It was an impressive thing to drive, but there was no hiding the weight when braking / cornering.

£30K sounds like full retail money to me, probably from a dealer offering a warranty, etc.

How far below that do you think "mates rates" will be? If hes looking a quick, easy sale it cant be anywhere near £30k....

Good question. another poster has mentioned 18k with a buffer for whatever work needs to be done and then flip it or trade it against a car I actually like the look of or that doesnt make me look like a mid level narco dealer. Ill have to tease this one out.

Thanks all for the input btw.

I’ve a number of these on autotrader saved to my profile they do not “flip” your talking weeks and weeks. One lovely example I had listed @£19,999 was on for 16weeks as an example.

It’s the same for F10 M5’s/E63 5.5bi Turbo /6.2v8 etc (I’ve one good priced E63 5.5 which has been listed for nearly half a year).

But it as a car to enjoy forget about making a quick buck

+1

I dont particularly watch RS6s but heavy duty stuff takes an eternity to sell and i suspect moreoften nowhere near the asking price.

O/P, it might be an idea to have your friend get quotes from local specialists in that sort of car, he will get an eye opener as to what its really worth, which gives you a better bargaining position.

The market for them is tiny when new
It’s even less so when used and old with massive fuel bills and £3k for all round brakes and £1k for tyres (frequently due to the camber and AWD)
The fact parts are not pattern due to volume
The fact it’s a massive engine meaning any or most issues require engine out.... £6-8k territory
The fact many are modified and some badly abused for what coul now be 13-14 years of hard use.... lots of things wearing out
The fact that 0-100mph an M140i might nip it or hold it so honest it’s unreal.

But it is epic bonkers epic and that’s why there is so much love for mad and bad RS6 wagons

lot of inaccuracies on this thread, they have a 5.0 litre twin turbo pushing out around 572bhp, though many were running well over 600 when tested on dyno. They don't have a cassette deck ( I presume that was a failed attempt at humour) There are reports of the oil pump seal being replaced by competent mechanics (ie not Audi Techs) without removing the engine. Mine is very well looked after by a decent local indie. They are ballistic from around 80mph upwards, they just go and go and it never feels stressed, the power delivery is awesome from these speeds. It's never going to be the quickest to 60 or nimble around the twisties but show it a decent A road and there cant be many cars that make you smile that much, particularly with a weeks camping gear, kids and dog on board. As for running costs if that is a worry buy a Dacia...thumbup

Oh and even at the mileage its way overpriced, I paid a lot less than that at 60k miles 3 years ago, he is not really doing you any favours "mates rates" or not..£30k is top money for a very low mileage dealer supplied example in perfect condition, and as you say these things don't like not being used biggrin
