Hybrid (Range rover sport or I8) as company car ?

Having a biy of change indirection having run my own business for years and potentially going back to work for someone.

Will be doing 20k -30k per year.

Looking at options of car allowance and .45p per mile ( yes I know this is not normal)

Or going RRS p400 or I8 looks like its going to cost me £600-£750 a month in tax. ( have a normal RRS now)

Havent done company cars for 20 years. So way out of touch.

Can only see hybrids working in the current company car tax system ? or am I missing something

You need to plan carefully

The plan! is that from 2020 BiK will be cut to 2% for electric vehicles

For plugin hybrids it depends on EV range and emissions - both the one you have mentioned are poor

So although the P400e can do 31 miles EV (yeah right) it emits 64g/km of CO2 which means 17% BiK

Yes have option of using my own car, which really i need to change for a new or newer one as is done 132k now and whilst all ok getting to the point where its going to be agro / start costing.

Always buy cash but think as money is cheap I will hp or pcp the next one.

So looking at say a 2nd hand RRS at say £50k, it looks like it would be £700ish a month payment which seems to the face of it to be the same as leasing a hybrid?

Going to be flat out for the next 3 years and dont really fancy any car agro, I have 3 other fun cars at home that cause enough grief !!!

Take a look at the Jeep Grand Cherokee either new or Ex demo (some dealers are offering finance contributions on used models too) as they come with a 5 year warranty/assistance 3 years free servicing all of which leaves you to spend money on your toys.

I can't advise as, like you, I haven't a company car for many years.... they used to be the 'thing' to have until the gubbermint taxed the perk out of existence.

But if you're going to be paying £750 a month in tax on a company car, wouldn't it be better to lease one? The tipping point between a company car Vs a personal one must be very close.

Tricky position to be in ATM

If leasing/PCP watch out for mileage limits which could add a few hundreds to the monthly bill

I have no idea whether your journey profile will fit but Evezy might! be worth consideration (15K annual mileage limit)

I have a hybrid Range Rover (not a RRS). They are great for my particular needs (lots of short journeys with a few 500 mile ones to remote, non-charging spots) but, to be honest, I'd be looking at a Tesla, if you can charge at home and work and you have a route that takes you past Superchargers. We have a Tesla MX100 and it makes the Rangie (well, any petrol car) feel slow.

I drove an i8 Roadster the other day and was very impressed. However, I drove it in sport mode everywhere and then the hybrid is more of a KERS system, so it remains pretty much fully charged all the time. Good for performance, but really does nothing for fuel economy. In the end, I couldn't really fall in love with it.

Not a big SUV, but very tax efficient as company cars.

Thanks for all the replies, there really doesn't seem much in it for me.

Rrs will be 18% in next couple of years and will be c. 600pcm in tax + 600 in lost car allowance.

£1200 for an £80k car with no hassles seems ok but I Wouldn't ever choose one but its needs must at the moment


Pure Ev's don't work for me, not enough charging points and regularly do 260+ miles in a day.

I got a 2019 Range Rover Autobiography p400 earlier this year

It went back to the garage to be repaired many times

Ultimately it was that unreliable I gave it back and lost a packet

Glad to be rid

Have a lot of presence but you can feel the new facelift version is essentially an old car underneath now with just some new tech screens

30mpg isn’t too bad

Overall a bad car for the money sadly

Company cars still great for big mileage

Tesla also good but I don’t think good enough yet

X5 new hybrid is 3 litre
Way more modern and drives way better than a range
Tech on board great and works better than rand with tech pack and comfort pack plus

Maybe the image isn’t as good though

I actually drove a Panamera hybrid yesterday just trying to see if the lease costs work.

It’s £85k new and the needs about £20k extras when I configured it.
