Lease car insurance
Discussion
Hi everyone,
Long time lurker of the best lease threads in particular and finally took the plunge and ordered my first lease car.
Question for you seasoned pros please, what's the best strategy insurance wise when moving from existing owned car to a lease, assuming not sold existing one on the same day the lease arrives. And same question when renewing assuming new lease unlikely to arrive same day old lease is collected. Do you have to run 2 policies and mess around with no claims etc. or are the insurance companies geared up for this somehow?
Thanks.

I just cancelled my old policy when I sold my car privately 2 weeks ago. Will take out a new policy when my lease arrives in the next week or two.
I was Lost out on a year on NCB in the 11th month, but that was offset by the £50 refund, and getting a better price than WBAC etc selling it on the day my lease arrives.

A very good question!
For my first lease I sold my own car a couple of weeks beforehand and so it wasnt an issue
The biggie is that the industry have moved from nominating the time of day your policy ends/starts to a blanket midnight changeover
Im not exactly sure when this happened as until becoming a lease tart I kept my cars for aeons so it wasnt an issue
FF to last autumn and I had cleverly arranged my current lease to start the afternoon of the day my last one went back. A cunning plan, or so I thought.......
As you say having 2 simultaneous policies is a PITA and there was a major 'computer says no' scenario unfolding to test my patience and sanity. I was bailed out by Volvo having a free insurance deal for 7 days from collection and so the overlap wasnt an issue in the end.
Next time I will not be so clever and leave a gap of a day or so between lease cars.
Cheers

It hasn't happened. As recently as March I was asked what time of day I wanted policy to change over to new car by a very mainstream insurer. Im not exactly sure when this happened as until becoming a lease tart I kept my cars for aeons so it wasnt an issue
