Telling the previous owner of a used car

Looking at getting for my dad a used (nearly new) Hyundai i800

Is there anyway of me finding out before travelling if it’s been owned by a rental firm or similar before travelling etc

Been there done that, drove two hours to find out I’d been fibbed to by the car dealer

Was just curious if someone on here could determine if it had been used by hertz or similar

Why does it matter?

Chances are pretty much every nearly new i800 for sale will be ex-rental anyway.

One of today's better sweeping generalisations! However not without the right sentiment!

Its an old wife's tale that buying a rental car is a bad idea, yes maybe if you are looking for something more prestige with a sensitive engine but for run of the mill stuff (which this very much is) there is no issue. I bought a Passat B7 (2012) ex rental, less than a year old from Hertz via a dealer, which at the time had done about 10k miles and was due its first service (when they generally get rid of them). We still have it and its now done 215k miles with no faults and most interestingly it is a manual and still on its 1st clutch!!!

That's what I was getting at, does my head in as there is no difference at all and with something like an i800 where does the OP expect it to have come from; possibly an ex demo or ex manufacturers car but I should imagine pretty much all of them would be ex rental, and anyway what is there to say an ex dealer demo or ex manufacturers car hasn't been used hard as everyone at the dealership will be wanting to use it when they have a family event on, or even for a dump run!

You can tell it's quiet today...

Bizarrely almost every 2018 i800 on Autotrader has been registered on an E prefix , regardless of its current location, and has around 30000 miles on the clock. It's almost as if they have all been bought from the same place and put to the same use...

The new style V5 doesn’t have previous keepers details unfortunately. It just shows the amount of previous keepers

My E220 was an ex Hertz car. Just ticked over to 309k miles today. You need to avoid ex hire cars like the plague, they have all been thrashed from new and will fall to bits as soon as you start using them.

I can understand not showing the pervious keeper's details which may identify them but I don't understand why they have to remove the date of the last ownership? Very annoying as I like to see how long they may have had the car and god knows what that date would have to do with GDPR.
