Hello PH,

I’m very keen to get some feedback.
April 2018 I entered a 2 year pcp, 16k per annum agreement on a 2014 Range Rover sport. It was purchased from a approved land dealer (Pentland - Perth - Scotland). As it’s a approved used vehicle it was sold with a 2 year warranty.
After 12 months I needed to take it in for some work as a strange noise become apparent. My local land rover retailer (Shropshire - where I live) then did a check to see wether the vehicle was under warranty and they came back to me saying it had been cancelled 2 weeks after my delivery of the vehicle. No one in their right mind would cancel their warranty (as it’s included). The bill for the work was £2800 which pentland landrover paid but now I find myself in a position where the car is not under warranty and they are been very hard to contact to resolve this problem. My local landrover dealer are stating that the vehicle has to go under a multi point check before any new warranty (existing 12 month of contract) is issued.
My problem is that they are not in the slight bothered about organist this. terms and conditions of the agreement have surely been broken by the dealership in Scotland.
Any feedback or advice about my rights in such a situation would be massively appreciated.

I don’t want to put another 16k miles on a Range Rover with no warranty.

Do I have a leg to stand on to end the contract with no penalty and maybe get some deposit money back?

Cheers!

I believe the guy who sold me the car has left the branch and the new sales manager is pretty suspicious that he cancelled the warranty.

if bought as a Landrover Approved Used then you should have that stated on the invoice. If Pentland don't play ball(and I'm sure they will put it right) then you may have to sue them through the small claims court.

At this point in time you should also make any finance co aware of the situation as well as Landrover CS.

Seek legal advice from the legal protection on your insurance. Even if you don't need it, it is better to be prepared.

Is the breakdown cover still valid ?

Sounds like the salesman may have cancelled during YOUR 14 day cooling off period for an insurance product. Maybe he pocketed the cost of the warranty and there is an element of criminality (Embezzlement). If so maybe suggest to Pentland you will involve the police.

I'd simply be happy with a letter stating Pentland will pay for anything that goes wrong in the next 12 months that would have been covered by the Warranty.

Or that they put a 12 month warranty on it

I doubt the salesman himself cancelled anything, it sounds like someone has fked up the paperwork, I don't see any benefit to the salesman for cancelling the warranty TBH, nothing he can gain.

I expect the sales manager is buying himself some time to sort it, but it should be quite simple for them to add the warranty as the car presumably underwent the checks when it was sold.

I'd go with this, probably not set up in the first place, no conspiracy just slipped through the net; it happens.

As above it will have slipped through the net, has happened to me after selling a used golf to a lovely customer who then needed work under warranty, a few calls to the manufacturer and I sorted it but will not make the mistake again thankfully the customer was totally understanding
