Hi all,

Something that amazes me on this forum is when people ask for suggestions the replies are incredible and I wonder how you find them.

I bow to your expertise and ask if you can assist me also

I currently drive a BMW 320d SE 60 plate 104000 miles. It’s been and still is a great car.
Low tax, great mpg reasonable performance (184bhp rwd) etc etc
However it lacks the creature comforts - Cruise control, Heated seats, sunroof, sat nav, Bluetooth etc

With a budget of £10k what would you go for? I have 3 teenagers so room is needed also.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You need ZX10R NIN to assist, I am sure he will be along soon. In the meantime what sort of thing have you been looking at; SUV, estate, saloon, do you have a preference on manufacturer or are there any cars you wouldn't consider??

I owned a prefacelift version of one of these - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201... it was a cracking family car, super comfy, loads of toys, loads of space for family and didn't cost much to keep on the road relatively speaking. It wafted along the motorway serenly and tackled a heavy winter without any issue. I would buy another and particularly like the facelift model which doesnt seem to have aged that much. I think it represents a lot of car for the money and if you find a good indy they will keep it on the road for you for littel outlay.

In fact that particular car has got me thinking again.........

If you dont want a SUV then this is worth a look - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201... should give you all the space you need whilst providing the toys, economy and able to get a lick on when required. This particular car doesnt have a sunroof but a pan roof can be found at this pricepoint. The Audi will also take the miles if well cared for and I think still looks quite a striking car.

And if you don't want an SUV or an estate then this is a bit left field and miley but should give you the space and toys you desire whilst looking like its worth a lot more money that it is - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201... however the rear bench looks tight for 3 depending on their size.

You will most probably find a saloon or estate will have a compromised middle seat due to transmission tunnel which is why I suggested the Mercedes.

Good luck and keep us posted with what you do.

I'm guessing you want something more modern with sensible mileage (below 65k) & good spec:

The value for money option is the Infiniti M Premium/GT in either 3.0d or 2.2d form, when it comes to mileage age & spec they're hard to beat:

2012 3.0d Premium 235 These use Mercedes 3.0d drivetrain so it's a well proven in terms of reliability & most Indys will be able to service it.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2015 Model but slightly less spec but it's still loaded:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2013/14 2.2d Mondeo Titanium X Sport 210 is the default option but compared to the cars above I wouldn't buy one but only because at your price point the Infiniti's represent a better overall package otherwise I'd go for the Mondeo, it's also the best FWD steer in this class.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2014 508 GT 200 very much underrated but a very good car this & the Mondeo share the same drivetrain.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2015 Superb Elegance 170 for me these are only worthy if every last mm of space is your priority, they're decent cars but no better than the 508 above:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2015 Kia Optima 3 135 these are well spec'd but just a bit lacking in go but you will still have two years warranty.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2013 XF R Sport 200

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

As I said when you look at everything the Infiniti is the one to go for.

Or the slightly smaller Q50 Sport:

2013/14 Q50 Sport 170 these use the Mercedes 2.1d in 170bhp form (as found in the C/E220) so reliability isn't an issue.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Or if you want an SUV:

2013 EX

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2010/11 FX looks are challenging but it's a very good car:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

It's hard to beat the Jeep Grand Cherokee in Overland/Limited Spec:

I'm amazed you have a 60 plate car with no Bluetooth.... i would have sworn at that age it was standard on virtually every car ?

Some brilliant suggestions thanks.

Ive owned a Superb before in an Auto and it was a lovely car. I do like them but the new shape stretches the budget too much.

Forgot to add all the Nav etc is all Mercedes on all Infiniti's the S80's are good but the infotainment isn't the best so try one out before taking the plunge.

As I said earlier for your budget the Infiniti is the one to beat you get a 2012 E Class with a different body loads of kit & a nice 3.0d which will make it a nicer place to be than the four pots, after those it would be the XF & then the E Class.
