Downgrading - trade in?

Hi all,
Change In circumstances means I’d like to get rid of my car (worth about 16k) and buy something for half that.
I hate selling privately and the car in question is likely to attract some unsavoury types, and I really can’t be bothered with it.
Has anyone managed to trade down like this at a dealership? Do they take a more expensive car in PX and give you some cash?
Had a valuation from WBAC and Evans Halshaw to buy the car straight; and was a bit low, as expected.

I chopped an S1 for a Z4 in December, S1 was worth about £19.5k and the Z4 was priced at £12k so I received the balance in cash from the dealer (indy not main). It was easier to negotiate the value of my px than it was for the value of their car so shop around dealers as they were all competing for higher p.x.
