Which used car?

Hi, I’m sure similar questions have been asked somewhere on here..

Looking to get a second car, to save miles on the Volvo xc90.

Going to nitially use it for a 70 mile a day commute, 3 days a week, with the occasional nursery drop off/pick up, so needs to be 5 doors.

Don’t really want to spend more than c£5k, less if possible. Been looking at Polo’s, golfs, A1’s, A3’s. Have heard bad things about Polo’s since my search started...something to do with the cylinders? I used to have a golf, so would love another.

I guess the questions are, which would you recommend, and which engine? and what’s the maximum mileage i should be looking for in a used car? I’m nervous buying anything with over 50k miles... (appreciate most of the above would be heading into £6-7k for this amount of miles)

Why are you nervous about 50k+ miles??

Purely maintenance cost and if things go wrong

In that case i would set that ceiling at 120k at least...it's not the 80s anymore, most post 2000 stuff is barely run in at 50k.

Don't know if this is allowed but.... I'm putting my 12 plate golf 1.6tdi up for sale today.

It's done 82k miles and just had cambelt and front shocks done. It's in very good condition with FSH and less than your budget.
