Audi S7 Stronic Reliability

Hi Folks,
I'm considering buying a 2nd hand 2016 S7 with 11,500 miles and I'm looking to gauge general reliability of the car, the Stronic gearbox in particular. I know this has been done to death but the previous threads I've found have all been once an issue actually appears. How common is an issue in the first place?
Some background: I had an older (2013 from memory) S5 which developed mechatronic issues at around 38,000 miles. Quoted bill for dealership replacement was £1000 (reduced from £3000) however from research I was led to believe that further gearbox issues might be just around the corner; along with some eye watering prices to fix. I decided to trade it in then and there and am currently in an A7 TDI Sline Quattro with tiptronic (or multitronic, I forget which).
The opportunity has come up for the S7 though, however I am apprehensive of the Stronic gearbox given the issues I had with the old S5 Stronic.
What's the consensus here? Was it just bad luck with the S5 and overall failure rates are low and I should just go for it - researching this inevitably just focuses on the horror stories? Is the newer S7 box better / worse than the S5? Any preemptive steps I can take to improve longevity of the box other than following the service schedule? Should I just stay clear altogether? Any decent 3rd party warranties which would cover mechatronic / gearbox replacements?
