Dad's just retired - smallish nearly-new SUV?

Hi,
My dad just retired last week and had his Mercedes GLA company car collected a few days ago. In the past he has had an A5, 420d etc all as company cars but will have to reduce the budget as he is now a pensioner and is buying with his own cash!
He is looking for a new car with the following requirements:
- Less than 3 years old
- Less than 30k miles approx
- Small / Medium SUV type car - basically nothing too low to climb into
- Auto
- Petrol
- Reliable
Budget of around £15k, less is better. Milage will be low - just pottering about really with the odd longer journey thrown in.
He is not a brand snob to happy to look at Kia's, Hyundai's and the like. He just wants a nice motor that will serve him well the next 5-10 years.
Anything that stands out from the crowd or ones to avoid? I am pretty good with cars but this is just not a segment I am interested in so have no idea what to advise him.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend a Skoda Yeti. Bought the wife one recently with a slightly lower budget and age limit (went for a 3.5 year old car with just shy of 30,000 miles). If you can find the newest Laurin & Klement trim car available, it'll be well specced.
For extra peice of mind, I'm paying around £30/month for the fully comprehensive extended warranty.

The Kia looks nice but I think hybrids command a premium at the moment (do they?!) and he doesn't really need on - plus more to go wrong.
Rallycross - he can choose what he likes, and he will. He's just asked me to look into a few options for him.

Check out the Renault Kadjar, very impressive I thought and better finished off than it's sister the Qashqai. The smaller Captur isn't a bad car either and very spacious inside.

In terms of what to avoid, if I was you I'd avoid the Nissan Juke, they're cheap but very outdated and cramped inside plus the sole petrol auto option (1.6 CVT) is thirsty and slow.

Take a look at the Q30 their ride height is about half an inch lower than the GLA also your dad will feel at home in one as the interior & drivetrain are the same same as the A Class but I'd say these have the nicer interior.My dad just retired last week and had his Mercedes GLA company car collected a few days ago. If going petrol and SUV/Crossover I'd suggest it be a turbocharged petrol. My n/a Honda CRV was irritating to drive, especially on the motorway and my neighbour says the same about her n/a Mazda CX-5.
Kuga seems like a good car for the money. One of my other neighbours keeps buying them so that's usually a good sign.
