Apparently
"Carwow said over £5bn worth of vehicles have been sold through the website since it launched in 2013. It said currently one in every 20 new retail cars in the UK sold is now through Carwow, representing 5% of the market"
Just did a quick calculation on my calculator of truth and 1 in 20 does indeed represent 5% of the market.
5% of 2.37 million does sound a lot until you say 118 000 cars. That's still a lot though. Has anyone on here bought one through them and what was the experience?
What brought my post up was that Mercedes have now taken a huge massive stake in them ( using my keyboard of truth) and so can they be no longer considered neutral?

I can imagine Doris trying to buy a Suzuki Cererio and ending up with a bargain Mercedes GBH. At least purse wise.

An interesting insight is that they count any customer that has got a quote as ‘theirs’
So even if they’re an existing customer of the dealership, they have already enquired, test driven etc and even if they don’t complete the sale through Carwow they still get counted as ‘theirs’ and they expect their cut.

I find it useful as a guide as to what I should be paying. When we bought the OH’s Skoda we mentioned the Carwow price we’d been quoted by that dealership and the salesman grunted and offered at that. I understand that they pay commission to Carwow. I couldn't care less if he denies any Carwow involvement and keeps the commission. What’s stopping him?
Maybe a question for the ask a car salesman anything thread but this is specific to CarWow.
No 1 offspring was looking for a car, knew what she wanted, engine, transmission, wheels, what colour, no extras, essentially standard albeit near top of the range.
Got a CarWow quote and out of the 5 there was one about 500 cheaper than the best of the others, quoting the exact vehicle, factory order, actual expected delivery weeks not quoted obviously. Quote valid until dd/mm/yy.
Problem was dealer was in the arse end of nowhere, they didn't do delivery and preferred you to attend in person to sort out the order. We thought about it, decided that for the saving we could work round the logistics, dealer had good reviews, so contacted to take it further and place an order. And so it started.
At this point it all went, ah but we don't have that car in stock, there isn't one in the country, it's the next build cycle, we need to have a chassis number so we can tie it up to a CarWow quote, but we can sell you one in hideous orange with pink tyres and blue interior, I exaggerate obviously on the pink tyres and blue interior but the rest is spot on true.
At that point sacked them off and went looking elsewhere. Couple of weeks later the quote was updated unasked, still same vehicle, still factory order delivery, still same quote validity date which was still 6 weeks hence.
Out of devilment, I admit, rang them up with a "So is this new requote now valid?" The answer came back "Sorry the quote has expired." "You mean that expiry date 6 weeks from now?" Click was the response.
Rightly or wrongly we concluded they were bidding massively low to get you interested at which point they'd try and sell you something else.
In the end we went with another dealer, much closer, more expensive obviously, though not as much as their original offer was out, and they produced the exact vehicle from stock, 1 mile on the clock, perfectly presented, pleasure to deal with.
So the question is whether our impression of what the first outfit was playing at is correct or what?
Have to say only ever bought one other new car through a broker. Placed the order with the broker and when the dealer contacted he did ask if I would accept a different colour, but it was no big deal to me in reality as both were metallic grey, just a darker shade. So that was fine for a quicker delivery.

Yep my sister bought her Ibiza though them, the local dealer wouldn’t take anything off, but the dealer she went with meant she got a lot of options for less than what the local dealer where quoting.
We also used them for our Audi lease, their prices are the same as online so went though them and got a £100 amazon voucher

I also used to really enjoy Mat Watson's reviews but think they have become particularly cringeworthy.

I might be nitpicking but have you noticed an increase in foul language used in the car wow vids, not to mention hand gestures lol.I also used to really enjoy Mat Watson's reviews but think they have become particularly cringeworthy.

It's as though they feel the need to be 'edgy' all of a sudden.
That said, I do enjoy their reviews just hope it doesn't become trashy.
I bought a VW via Carwow in 2015, then tried again in early 2019.
As posted above, this time I concluded that a factory order at the advertised price wasn't possible. I'd priced up a Golf GTI with quite specific options and literally couldn't get any of the dealers to do it for the quoted price. I was instead being offered stock cars when I enquired - and told repeatedly that a factory order for the spec I wantec would cost more than quoted!
In the end, I decided to go for something different (Lexus CT!) and bought used.

Used for price comparison to screw local dealer down, who was saying it’s the best price we can do...
After carwow convo another 5% appeared

I went via them to get a base price on what I should expect to pay. I went into my local dealer, they where useless. Went to another mentioned car wow and they asked me "Is the best price *insert dealer name*" Yes why I replied - "they cant ever match it once you go to them it cant be done we've had a few people in saying it now"
That was 6 months ago. Since I went back to the dealer I went into and they did me a mega deal BUT I still tried car wow.
Dealer 1 - Said great dealer I was advised wont complete on the deal - Correct utter crap took 5 days to reply to messages and didn't get anywhere
Dealer 2 - Fantastic did a mega deal, really helpful and was about to sign with them.....................UNTIL
Another dealer local I went into contacted me seeing if I was after a car still I said yes and sent the car wow deal to them - She smashed it so I ordered via her as better deal for me, closer and her service was better than car wow.
Defiantly worth using car wow to screw dealers down
