Any Pickup Experts In ? Ranger / Navara / Hilux / L200
Discussion
I'm looking to buy a pickup super / king cab as I need the load space
I need it to carry 1 ton and tow 2 tons (not at the same time)
I'd like it as light as possible so I may bin the 4WD as I'd guesstimate that would save 150kg
Which have a rear LSD as standard (or easily available as I'm fitting a 300bhp V8)
Donor (can have a blown engine) max £4k budget - but I prefer older models
So which is the best option ?
It seems :
Rangers are lighter but rust more
Hilux don't seem to do a king cab on the older models and cost a fortune
Navara D40 weigh the most 1950kg
D22 seems the obvious choice as there are plenty about with blown engines but they are still 1850kg (my old P100 was 1450kg)
A 1998 2WD Ranger Super cab only weighs 1450kg but the 2WD variants look awful and have poverty spec so I was thinking about a 4WD as a starting point both for looks and spec. leather, E/W, AC etc

I would have thought that nearly all of the large bed versions of pickups will have been work trucks so poverty spec.
However, if you are going to the effort to stick in a V8 then it won't be beyond your skills to fit a nicer interior from a crashed luxury double cab.
It's not just the interior, arches and beds are different too and AC - a LOT easier to remove driveshafts !However, if you are going to the effort to stick in a V8 then it won't be beyond your skills to fit a nicer interior from a crashed luxury double cab.
