moon on a stick? Probably.
I currently have a lovely big 7 series that I adore. But I'm bored. I need something beside it that I can get in and wonder if I'm coming back with an S172 ( is that still a thing?).
Mid life crisis has hit, again. I've had litre bike's, I've done the 350bhp rear wheel drive flame spitting madness and to be brutally honest I feel like I have un finished business.
I'm not getting younger, turning 40 next month but that only bothers the wife that says I'm too old for a car that whistles. The cheek of it.
I currently can't see past a fast mini of R53, John cooper fame but I need some inspiration. Some core requirements:
Fun
Forced induction
If I can I'd rather stay with a RWD so that blows the mini out but if FWD then an LSD needs to be there or doable.
Reliable, not bothered about usual risks with these requirements but having confidence in it completing a journey under abuse is key
Don't care about economy
Bluetooth connectivity for phone and music
The floor is yours, have at it.
Edit: not an MX5

LS1 V8 Camaro z28.
RWD, fun and reliable. It isn't forced induction, but makes 95% of it's peak torque from 1500rpm and still revs pretty good. Very nice engine to drive.
There supercharger and turbo kits too if you get hooked. Power starts at about 320-350hp n/a and can easily be taken to 460hp without boost or in the region of 600hp with a basic blower kit. And skies the limit form there.
They come with an LSD and are even semi practical with 2+2 seating and a reasonable boot.
This is my one. Have owned a z28 for the past 15 years. Also owned a Subaru Impreza Turbo. In the dry the Camaro is just as quick/quicker. But is a lot more fun to drive.

All into classic region now and values are going up for good ones.
You could probably get an M3 (obviously not turbo) for that but won't be the best ones, will likely not lose you money other than repairs.
Ran my Celica at a steady 290bhp and it was a great drive, sold it for £9k this year though, they are appreciating a fair bit at the moment.Celica GT4

OP you could consider a VX220 NA for around £8k, there is a supercharge option down the line for around £3.5k by a team on the forum. It would simply drive away from anything else you can list here. Mid-engined two seat open top RWD loveliness.

Aye, I had considered. I’ve had an S14 200sx in the past and although great fun I was constantly fixing something. But I think that was poor setup than anything else. Celica GT4

I think if jap then Impreza would come out on top, are R32’s anywhere close yet?

R32 GTR, a decent one will cost upwards of £18k-£20k nowadays. Once R34s got silly money the R32s followed. Now they are up in the £20k bracket the R33s are going north too. I think if jap then Impreza would come out on top, are R32’s anywhere close yet?

I'd say a 335i with some (LSD suspension work etc) mods:

Or go for the best FWD hot hatch:
