Dear all!

Currently my daily car is a 3-series Estate 340i, had it for almost 3 years and it's a great all rounder. It's a good car with a good engine but I came to the conclucsion that everyday driving the B58 engine is too much and a great percentage of the miles could be done one a lesser powered engine. So a bit of a waste for 90% of my driving.

My needs:

- An estate as with kids and windsurf need a moderately sized car
- Reliable and comfortable 9this includes sufficient power for a comfortable drive
- Hoping to keep it for at least 8 years so depreciation curve not important, looking at nearly new or even new.

My idea is to get a basic but presentable/comfortable car and keep for many years and run a fun car later that does not need to be pratical. Replacing one car does it all....

Budget varies but looking to spend max £30k, ideally less but as I am going for nearly new this may be difficult. As said looking to keep it for a long time.

My first initial thought was a Skoda Superb Estate in a petrol, manual form, yes dull to look but probably meet my needs. Planning to take it to 200k miles before considering replacement.

Any thoughts? Know it has been done to death but any pointers would be good.

Am I mad in wanting to run 2 cars? Or should I sjut stick to one car does it all malarkey?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

If you like the BMW what about a 320d? Drove my sister's a few times and plenty quick enough for day to day driving, much cheaper to buy, insure and run than your 340 but same level of comfort etc
