How to sell 9 month old M140?

Hi all, is the right forum for this?

I bought an M140 in Jan this year on a PCP deal. It made sense at the time but now I find I'm hardly using it, it only has around 3000 miles on it. I totally recognise that selling now will be an expensive option, but if I do decide to cut my losses and get rid of the car, what is my best option?

Is there a viable private market for this type of car, or am I best off selling into the trade? If the latter, the supplying dealer is the obvious first call, but who else might want to buy it? Does the fact that it's on PCP add any complication, or do I just get the buyer to settle the finance instead of paying me the cash?

Some help with these basic points would be much appreciated to help inform my decision.

Get in contact with BMWFS and find out the cost to settle, then from there you can decide if you're going to sell to the trade or privately.

The mx40i Facebook group is worth a shot with regards to selling - I've saw a few sold though it over the last couple of weeks.

Presumably you'll be in negative equity unless you put down a large deposit. I'd be inclined to list it privately for a while first as BMW tend to lowball on them according to what others in the group have said.

Just be careful as the group has a few tossers in it. Still worth listing it to gauge any interest though.

And yes, if you get a settlement figure from BMW the new buyer would pay their share and you cover the difference.

I imagine you would get offers in the low 20's from a dealer? Hopefully you paid way less than £30k new so although painful, it could be a lot worse!

Try tootle. The website will dictate your advertised price but I ended up getting a bit more than advertised from competing dealers for my m240i. Also try WBAC and Evans Halshaw, the latter I sold a 2 year old TT to for a decent price. My m240i ended up going to a bmw specialist (via tootle) so you could try some of those direct also.

Try your local BMW main dealers. Ask to speak to someone dealing with buying used cars for stock. Have pics at hand that you can email them.

Also check local specialists who sell stuff like that.

You mean get a palatable trade bid.

Failing that, I recently had good success with selling my 2018 MINI Cooper S on facebook marketplace. Ended up getting £3,500 more than the best trade bid.

You have to deal with a load of "is this still available" messages but surprising few real dolts.

Quite a few facebook groups too to advertise on.

I think you're likely to see in the low 20's returned, varying depending on spec.

Seconded. My mate sold his 135i coupe to him 18 months ago, fair price and easy transaction.

I suspect that you will pay the full years depreciation on list,
Is a car swap possible with suppling dealer ?

That way you will not be paying for 2 margins ( perhaps 2 x .75)
