Fast road/light race options, 10-20k

Ok, so I’m in the happy position that someone has offered me their race car to drive for free, so I can sell mine.

My car has a value of around £25k. For the replacement, I’d like something that gives me a sense of occasion everytime I drive it, and is capable of being maintained by a competent DIY person (me - have rebuilt engines etc in the past, but not to race levels).

Replacement should be a fun weekend car, relatively depreciation proof, relatively narrow to fit in the garage. I have an everyday driver. It should be interesting, capable of doing track days and the occasional sprint and hill climb, and cheap to maintain.

Right at the moment my options are as follows:

1) Ginetta G15 (and dumped about 15k onto the mortgage)

2) Caterham, probably a K series (and dump about 7k onto the mortgage)

Anything else?

Lol which you'll keep especially when you feel the acceleration which will have you rolling off the throttle quick smart & then you'll enjoy the cornering, all whilst keeping your self preservation well & truly intact but I understand they're not for everyone.

The only Lotus’ I really like are elans and Lotus Cortina Mk1, both out of budget. The Elise is a bit too modern for my tastes, and also potentially a bit out of budget for a good one.

Pretty much, yes, if only for ease of maintenance (primarily electronics). I’d be comfortable it’s abcaterham, but I don’t really class them as ‘modern’.
