What SUV for 35k? HELP

Hi all, after some help please. After years of having a boring company car and having Catherams / Elises for track, I want to combine both of these to 1 car. Family exploits take up most of my time and I’ve had my fix with trackdays.

Never had an SUV and fancy the higher position as a change. Thinking about the following used cars all around 1/2 years old; BMW X3 3.0d, Discovery sport 240 diesel dynamic lux or maybe Macan s (2015), however running costs could be trouble.

Ideally I am looking to buy outright and keep for 5/6 years

None of these will incorporate the performance side of things especially in diesel form but I would look at the Grand Cherokee in either Overland/Summit form:

If you're considering an X3, drive a 30d and a 35d or 40d: to me the higher output motor would be my choice, it's a lot more rewarding todrive, for not much more fuel use.

One thing I’d add, after doing my own research about this type of thing, is check you’ve got enough space in the back - the rear bench isn’t necessarily as roomy as you might expect.

Have had the newer shape Audi Q7 (3.0 TDI)for over a yr now and can't fault it... comfortable spacious, lovely interior and even some boot space with the third row in use. Your budget should get you a 3yo example with decent spec.

That's probably the least bad option but I don't think it will work that well on track.

Leaning towards an G01 BMW X3, 3.0d. It is the new model, has all the latest tech and the 3.0l diesel will have enough poke. Would love an M40i, however it is more than I can afford, plus the fuel costs will be drastically more than a 3.0d.

Anyone got one?

I do like these, however I am used to the interior, as I currently have a B9 A4. I also think I can get more X3 for my money than the Q7

Leftfield choice - I was in a similar position after my last performance car was stolen - opted for a Lexus 450H Hybrid which we plan on keeping forever.

I did look at these, however the 2 things that put me off are boot space and the old tech.

They do look and sound good though

Worried about a few hundred pound on fuel but disregarding the catastrophic depreciation? It’s a small percentage in the grand scheme, not sure how you can equate enjoyment to driving a diesel 3 series on stilts.
