Commuter Car, mid size hatch??

After a divorce and a couple of years rebuilding my life, buying a house on my own etc etc I would like to buy a car (or 2)

I want/need a mid sized hatch, think Golf/Focus size, I’d like 5 doors, diesel a/c and Bluetooth. Budget is up to 6k and I’ll be doing about 17k per annum travelling to work and to my new partners about 35 miles each way 2/3 times per week.

I want reliability and dependability rather than fun and pizazz on the basis that if I can stick to budget I can also buy a second fun car for a couple of thousand pounds think MX-5/Clio172.

I’m veering towards a Kia Cee’d or Hyundai I30 1.6 diesel. Any suggestions or words of advice from those on this forum more knowledgeable than me?

I'd say an Astra Elite is a very good call as you can get a sensible mileage one for bang on budget with all the spec you want.

My golf Mk6 1.6tdi (12 plate) will be up for sale in the coming days. 83k miles, FSH, recent cambelt/waterpump and front shocks.

Ideally I'd want 4.5k based in Kent if it's any good to you.
