Help deciding on mk6 golf or mk2 skoda superb.

So My glorious £500 s
tbox that gave me 11k miles in 3 month period has just been taken off the road due to brake failure.
(not worth fixing as the car is an cat s mk5 golf with a 1.4 engine and a list of small issues that add up to about a grand to fix.)
Looking at 2 possible replacements on the classifieds currently.
1. A 2009 mk6 golf with the 1.4 tsi engine it's got just under 100k miles and part service history.
2. A 2010 skoda superb with the 1.9 tdi engine (105bhp).
I know they are both massively underpowered but I've been driving for just over a year and they are two of my best options as I don't want anything smaller than I golf becuase i drive from England to Scotland regularly and do a fair amount of miles.
The insurance price difference is negligible about £100 cheaper per year for the skoda.
Sorry for the extremely long and boring post. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

I'd say the Skoda is the way to go the extra torque will make it feel brisker than you think.
Other cars worth looking at are the Alfa Giulietta in 1.6d trim:

The 1.3d which is very insurance friendly but with your mileage I'd be going for a 1.6+ diesel.
