Super Cheap +/- £1500 MPG Mile Muncher

Been looking for weeks.
After something super cheap (£1000-£1500), good MPG and estate'y.
Down to the Megane 1.5dci or the VAG 1.9 130 PD range, for a bit more interest.
Used to have a Mazda 2.2d Sport That was mapped to about 227bhp and that thing ticked all boxes. Wished I'd never solid it as it was a high miler, so got a pittence for it.
Was 'nippy', huge inside (used to get a 27.5 full suspension MTB in it, wheels on), tons of gadgets (2010 facelift model), awesome sound system, and used to trip the computer at 45-48mpg. Drat!
Now wanting to find similar, I cant get one at anywhere near what I sold mine for, so now finding something else.

How reliable is the Laguna?
I'm presuming more than the previous version.

If you want it to handle acceptably then I understand Mondeos or Focuses (Focii?) always hit the top of the reviews in their class. I think your Mazda would have been Mondeo underpinnings(?)

The Laguna's are as reliable as anything else in this segment but they do like a window regulator every now & then.How reliable is the Laguna?

When I were looking around for I looked at the following:
Volvo s40 2.0d
Mondeo 2.0 TDCI
SAAB 9-3 1.9 TTID or TID
Audi/VW etc 1.9 TDI
I went with the SAAB 9-3 TTID. It had the best spec, newest, most economical and cheapest to insure. I were going to get the Volvo S40 but I couldn't find one in the spec I wanted close enough. The SAAB has been solid and the seats are so comfy.

I had a mates S40 off him to sell last week, sorted him out an F11 5 Series touring and he gave me that to sell as a drink.
It was a 56 plate 1.6 manual, but it was incredibly comfy, got 450 miles from a £55 fill up, incredibly comfy, nice gearbox, incredibly comfy, awesome seats, incredibly comfy, great stereo and not sure if I mentioned but incredibly comfy.
Also, sold it for £600 with 100k miles on it and FSH.
Looking about quite a few low mileage V50 estates for budget.
