Best way to get into a shed from a nice car?

I've currently got a perfectly nice car worth a around £10k trade and my other half has a nicer big car.
New job means that I'll be either parking at the station or some horrible crammed multistory.
I'm thinking of moving to a shed for my car and possibly getting a nice weekend car.

What's the best way to downgrade from a £10k car to shed?
Is it selling privatley? Trying to find a trader that will P/X my car against a shed?

Seems somewhat rhetorical in nature, but of course you'd expect to get the highest value privately at the expense of your time/effort. Part-ex, you lose a little around the edges but gain convenience.

Perhaps I'm missing something about your question...

You're right, the quesiton is rather simple.
Just wanted to check that my choice is essentially following the same steps I would take if I were to change to any car.
I was wanting to make sure there wasn't a trick missing when moving to something sub-1k.

Sell privately, buy privately.

I went from a £10k sports car into a £2k runabout, and haven't regretted it at all.

Yup I was running a car I bought for £7,000 sold 6 months later for £6,500 then picked up a run around for £1,800 and to be honest couldn't be happier! Ran that one for a further 4 years

Sold for 9k and bought for 650 here too. But 6 months later I've gone the other way lol.

Go for mechanically well maintained over looks , I was lucky to buy it off a work colleague so new the history.

Funnily enough I bought my new car off a work colleague too , and he bought the shed as a px!

I bought an android touch screen stereo for mine which gives GPS, Spotify, Bluetooth etc to an otherwise technically inept car. Well worth it on a shed

My advice for getting a shed would be to get something that interests you.

For my shed I ended up with an E46 320d. Might not be most peoples idea of an interesting car but I enjoy tinkering with it and like the way it drives so it keeps me from buying anything else. It may have worked out cheaper to run a Passat but I think I'd have scrapped it by now.

A few years back I sold my Monaro VXR privately and bought a 400 quid VW polo to help fund a house extension.

It was a bit of a come down, but at the same time quite liberating, not giving a crap where I parked or what happened to the thing.

I've seen a Micra K11 locally with a years MOT, new clutch & FSH for £650..

Surely you can get a much better shed than that, I seriously think you will hate it. Few weeks ago I picked up a 55 plate Honda Civic Type S, 104K miles on the clock, Full Honda (Every stamp, every receipt) service history, all premium tyres on eBay for £720. It was filthy dirty inside and out and had a few scuffs here and there but nothing ten hours of cleaning and a touch up pen couldn't sort out.

157BHP, 0-60 in 8.2 seconds and returning low 40s MPG on the motorway.

I have a hatchback with 12 Months MOT and 235BHP you could have for very little more than that if you don't mind a few parking dings!

And the Monaro VXR situtation rings a bell with me too. I owned one from 8 months old for 3 years as a daily. Loved it. Eventually replaced it with an E39 523i Touring, which cost £600. I was paying £600-odd per month for the Monaro. The BMW had a few issues that the seller couldn't be bothered to deal with and thought they'd be expensive fixes. I saw the price of the car slowly being dropped each week and went and made what I thought was a cheeky offer at £600 that would be turned down, but he couldn't shake my hand quick enough! I'm sure I could have go it even cheaper, but I fixed all the faults for a few hundred quid and was left with a very nice sub-£1000 car which I thoroughly enjoyed using for a year, before chopping it in for a Jag XJ without any loss at all to myself. Good Bangernomics!

Stuff that - I bought a Swift Sport for £880 with history, just a few dings and the interior needed a good clean

I'd give the Micra a miss too!

I wanted a cheap daily back in 2014 and bought a low mileage 1996 Mazda 323f 1.5i for about £650 - but it was just so soulless to drive I only kept it 6 months.

Spent a bit more to replace it with a six-cylinder E46 3 Series, but I didn't mind as it was just so much better to drive - I ended up keeping it over 3 years!

And to get the best deals, buy and sell privately.

For a grand I would look at a Suzuki Ignis sport if you want something a bit unusal but a lot of fun in a small package... bombproof little cars and fun to rag about.

My present shed is a 2001 Astra 1.6 8v petrol. Bought it over 9 years ago for £600 off a mate. Passed its MOT back in March with just an advisory on a tyre being close to the wear bar. Hoping to have several more years use out of it yet.
