Hi, im looking to buy a new car and have come up with these 3 which I would be interested in. I am kind of a new driver, currently owning a 1.2 corsa sxi and im looking to get rid of it and buy a new one. The reason im looking for a new car is, the corsa i find is really easy to stall and sometimes have to overrev the hell of it just to get off out of hilly junctions. It is hard to set the revs, sometimes i get it to 1.5 sometimes over 2 or even 3. I am looking for a smooth drive and something which is not easy to stall. My budget is around 5.5k and have come up with these 3 cars. I used to learn in an a3 diesel and found it to be a really smooth drive, easy and never getting close to a stall ever. Very different with my corsa, an a3 is out of budget so ye.

If you're doing less than 12k a year then forget the diesels take a look at the Focus as they're a a god shout in 1.5/1.6 ecoboost form.

Stay away from the 1.6.tdi, especially if it's had the ea189 update.

As ZX10R said I wouldn't get a diesel. I probably wouldn't get a MK6 VW Golf either.
Turbo petrol would suit your needs, would you be against an Ecoboost Fiesta? You can get a 99 bhp Zetec comfortably in budget, or look around for a 123 bhp Zetec S or a Titanium. There's a reason they're the most popular car in the UK.
