Subaru Car selling / buying conundrum

Hello,
I'm considering a new car, *not specifically newer than mine, but something which runs a bit better..
I've currently got a 2009 Subaru Impreza 2 litre Diesel averaging around 43mpg but has seen better days and currently has a hell of a rattle when cold which is concerning me..
It hasn't thrown up any warning lights yet, but I suspect it will need some valve work / hydraulic lifter work soon..
I'm really not sure what to do, but here are my thoughts so far, I've had the car for 7 years now, I'm growing out of the hood scoop etc.. do I...
1. Find a mechanic who can diagnose the issue and look to get it repaired, if the repair work is over say £1k, do I look at option 2?
2. Take it to Evans Halshaw and hope I get £1k for the car? Then go on Auto Trader and look for a ZX10 car recommendation?
3. Trade it in, with the hope that I can find a car at a dealership with the car I'm looking for..
4. Ride it out until it potentially goes bang, then sell it on Gumtree or similar?

- 80,0000 miles
- It was keyed on three panels down the side of the vehicle ( nothing too bad but it won't polish out)
- It's got scuff marks from someone catching it in a parking lot at the front, and again at the back corner..
- The alloys are generally dented..
- The rest of the bodywork will polish up nicely....
- Interior of the car is well kept and everything works, electric windows, cruise etc
- In regards to service history, I've completed everything myself since it was new... so have many receipts, but possibly not everything..

Aren't these 2.0d Subaru engines famously poor ? Ive seen loads sold with failed engines but near perfect bodies.
I was looking at them a few years back but alot of horror stories about reliability.
Id be tempted to shift it on whilst it's still got some value. I'd avoid private sale incase it goes pop, whilst legally the buyer has no rights I wouldn't want the hassle if it failed

In summary: It’s 10 year old complex diesel car that has never been professionally serviced and feels unloved?
It’s a Subaru, the only thing that outlives these are cockroaches ... assuming they are looked after properly. I have a 15 year old Outback with 110k miles on it and its still good as gold, everything works etc so don’t give up yet - unless you want to swap cars.

Subaru make fantastic cars, unfortunately for you they dont make good diesels - I would go onto UK Legacy and get advice some diesel experts on board.
Your best option is to fix it up and get some more miles out of it as selling in on wont yield much, if its worth £1600 thats probably in resonably condition which your doesnt seem to be so its prob £1k or even less to a dealer - you would get more breaking for parts, the aluminium bonnet with scoop is worth £150 at least in good condition, ditto to the honeycomb grill - thats £300/400 in parts alone - throw in 2 headlights with wash jets and thats £200+ more and the inside is not even done at this stage
