Mitsubishi L200 Series 5 2015

Evening,
Well having recently sold my VX220 Turbo and with a potential job relocation to the Channel Islands in the pipeline it’s all change again for me.
The job move isn’t happening now, timescales were just too short to uplift a family and sort housing, school etc. So it’s on the back burner for 12-18 months time.
In the meantime I am running around in my MK6 Golf which is fine, however it looks like a share in a boat could be on the cards for next Summer and also we may well be taking a pony on loan for our daughter.
That being the case I was looking at an SUV (ML 2012 onwards) in respect of being the family car but also being able to tow when required.
I happened to see a video on YT of someone reviewing a Series 5 L200 double cab which caught my eye. It would tick all the boxes and more of an ML and being more ‘utilitarian’ and less luxury would arguably be more suited to horse riding kit, wetsuits, bales of hay etc.
I know the earlier L200 had an awful reputation for reliability but from what I can see this new Series 5 seems to be quite a big step forward. Can anyone tell me otherwise or perhaps relay their experiences if you have owned/driven/used one??
I realise it’s not very ‘PH’ however with a large contingent of members who clearly enjoy the outdoors I figured maybe someone could enlighten me?
This also had me considering a Ranger (not struck on looks) and an early Amarok (early ones seem to have issues).
Back in the day I ran a D40 Navara Aventura which wasn’t a bad vehicle to be fair although it showed its size in the local supermarket car park! We have an Audi A1 to accompany it so such journeys can be done in the A1 with the pickup used for work duties.

Not much input on this, I did have a look at an Amarok however have been warned away from the BiTDi dir to an oil consumption problem so that has put pay to that.
Figured I might like an auto and missed a Series 5 Warrior auto because I couldn’t make up my mind if I should hang on for a Barbarian to get the smart seats and blue cabin lights.
Have seen a Barbarian I like with nice mileage but it’s manual - anyone experience of the auto gearbox on this?

So I drove an NP300 Navara which was lovely, although dealer playing hardball and adding on admin costs which really infuriated me so kept looking.
Found the perfect L200 Warrior (spec, colour, miles, condition) it was perfect and despite not having seen it I went to buy it in my mind. First impressions excellent it was exactly as described and perfect for what I wanted until.........I drove it!
My god it was awful, very boat like and jittery over the road surface. On the short test drive both myself and friend commented on how noticeable it was. I appreciate it’s a work truck and lots say that having a load in the bed helps but after the Navara it seemed archaic.
It’s a shame because I really liked it and still think the L200 in Warrior/Barbarian spec is a great looking truck but as an everyday family car the ride wasn’t upto it. It did have some chunky AT tyres fitted in fairness which probably didn’t help but I don’t believe this was the sole factor.
So back to my search, a Navara priced right is still in the frame otherwise it’s back to an SUV of some sort I think.
