F10 530d vs Superb Sportline 220

Having looked around at what is out there I have narrowed my choice down to either of these cars.

My priorities are comfort, performance, long distance ability and space for the four of us for holidays etc.

I have always fancied a 530d as they seem to be a great all round package. Now that the new model has been out you can pick up a three year F10 530d for around £18k. For slightly more you can get an 18 plate Superb which will be newer and with less mileage and be petrol. I think the sportlines look very smart and have loads of practicality and get good reviews.

What would you guys go for out of these two? The F10 is nearly a decade old and looks a little dated and the Superb is a newer model and has better spec as standard. However I can't help feeling the F10 is the better car.

Not really bothered about the badge so Skoda badge doesn't worry me at all.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for your response. I will take a look at those petrols. To be honest I'd not considered petrol f10s.

I do about 10k per year sometimes a bit more but not usually 12k.

Would the dpfs be an issue at that mileage if I do a few longer journeys every month or so?

The answer is dependent on how many miles you do if you do roughly less than 12k a year then you could be heading for DPF issues, you could look for a 528/530i:

Thanks for your suggestions. Really appreciate it. Would consider the Vignale but the VXR probably not so good on longer journeys with much lower mpg.

I do feel though that the f10 and superb seem to be a more premium product than the ford. Although having had a mk4 Mondeo I expect it drives better.

Depends on your profile of mileage - lots of short trips then petrol but if you do a monthly longer trip, then you might get away with a diesel.

The Vignale is a step above the Titanium models when it comes to the seats etc easily on a par with the Skoda (I found it to be a bit nicer which was why I bought one) the lighter interior helps differentiate & show the upgrades when it comes to the inside but you'll have to judge that one for yourself, I found the Mondeo to be the better steer too.

Your mileage is boarderline so you may just be okay getting a diesel so it'll be close & something only you can decide on.

My 525d f11 has done only 6k between its mots this year zero dpf issues. I have a large caravan which is why I have a diesel, it tows like a dream.
Also does better round town mpg than the wifes 1.0 ecoboost fiesta so im not convinced by some of the petrol vs diesel arguments.

Ruled of the XF as concerned about JLR reliability. Will look at the Infiniti though.

Has anybody got any experience of the Sportline? Interested to know whether it bears comparison to a 5 or similar class of car.

Yep, Jaguar engines are prone to going on fire and don't get me started on Jaguar's huge EGR recall disaster, yet people keep buying them thinking they are reliable...

Not got a Sportline, but a 2016 L&K 280 estate, bought secondhand. I used to own an E61 525d M Sport, great car that I kept for over 3 years, only selling because the miles were racking up.

The Superb is almost the same size as the earlier 5 series, but has a lot more space for rear seat passengers, and a similar size boot. Comfort is pretty much the same, although the BMW had a bit less road noise once I'd got rid of the run flats. Superb is a very solid-feeling car for what is effectively VAG's budget brand, but the BMW probably has the edge on build quality - understandable, as it's a fair bit more expensive.

To me, a Superb is a viable alternative to a 5 series.
