Best £30k 2 seater sports car

So I am thinking about getting a new car once some home improvements finally get completed this winter.

I would quite like a convertible with most of its depreciation already shredded! I dont mind putting a few more £ towards it if it is going to have better residuals. For example the 4.7 vantage

Couple of options so far:

F-Type 3.0 v6s Low mileage
V8 Vantage

Where would you be putting your money?

Really need a better idea of what you will use it for?

European GT cruising? Back road blasting? Daily? Weekend toy? Trackdays? etc etc

I like the F-Type as a GT but the cabrio's boot space then limits its GT capabilities so sits in a funny spot for me.

Elise or Exige.

Having done 4 days on track at Hethel, and owning one (money where my mouth is and all that), they're excellent on road and track, plus they don't depreciate particularly...

The V8V at that price would be a dog I suspect, I have been watching these and it looks like a decent one will be late 30's to early / mid 40's but they are mileage sensitive.

My challenge with the Jaguar is that although I really like them, they are just nowhere near as good looking as their coupe brother in my opinion.

30k gets you in a decent Maserati or even 996 convertible both of which have shed most their money.

Other option might be decent Boxster, that budget gets you a great car.

it will do 4000 miles a year max. Euro trip and a few weekends!

981 Boxster S would be a corker, would still have a lot of money to lose though.

Why not put it into an appreciating asset... A R129 would be lovely to do some long Euro trips in.

In that case I wouldn't want to do that in an Elise.

I agree a 981 could be a good shout but has further to fall depreciation wise. That said, probably the cheapest running costs of the V8V/996/Maserati ideas which could see you drop £5k a year in running them which allows a a lot of depreciation for a newer car. I would have thought £30k would see you in a 997 convertible? Albeit you still have the same bore score concerns in either.

SL is a good shout, whether the RL129 or the later car. SL55 AMG and brave pills?

Evora, Corvette, TVR.

Granted it's not a convertible but as a car to take to Europe in, the Evora is a good shout. I've done a couple of Euro trips in mine and it was perfect, air con and cruise control helped on the motorways. Not sure I could handle a convertible anymore (came from a VX220 and did the same Euro trip to Cologne, Liege, Spa etc)

I prefer those to the model that followed - the outside was prettier, and in 55 AMG form the engine is awesome, but the interiors now feel not so great, out of date Comand systems etc.

The 129 SL500 doesn't have screens etc to go out of date, and is really well put together.

Very good shout if used in Europe particularly. In fact it’s what I shall hopefully soon be getting.

I have always liked these. a 6.2 liter v8 in the UK...sounds single mpg figures! I will add it to the list to take a look at.

Corvette V8 is likely more economical than many Euro/Jap engines half its displacement.

Once you’re in they’re fine I’m 6-4 17/18 stone and got fine.
