Removing a private plate before selling?
Discussion
I’ve got a car with a private plate I’d like to keep. Looking online I can remove the number place immediately and put it on retention - assigning the old number to the car.
If I do this I will get a new V5 in 2-4weeks
If I want to sell the car privately in the period where I don’t have the V5 with the correct plate on it, is there a clean way to do this?

I've bought two cars recently with private plates and it got messy at time of sale.
The first time the V5 was sent back to the previous owner and we couldn't tax the car.
The second car I bought from a garage and the V5 didn't turn up. When the garage was chased up about it, and once a new one did turn up, there was an additional previous keeper on the V5.
Best to get the plate off and V5 back prior to sale. Usually the DVLA are quite quick. I wouldn't buy without the V5 present.
