Hi all,

I'm looking at purchasing the Mazda 3 2.2D sport and wondered if anyone had any tips on what to look out for when I go and look at one tomorrow? Any common faults etc.

Also, I'm thinking of getting a stage 1 remap for it so again, any pointers on this subject and where's best to get one from would be much appreciated. I'm in the Peterborough area but would consider travelling further afield if needs be.

Thanks

I had a 2013 2.2d Mazda 6 which had a few issues with the gearbox which were never really resolved. The gearstick would vibrate badly in sixth gear. Was more noticeable around 60 - 70 especially when accelerating hard in that gear. They replaced the fifth and sixth gear and various other bits under warranty. I think a few models suffered with that.

The door speakers are prone to blowing as well. It should be obvious if they have gone when you turn the speaker up loud.

Double check it can be remapped. It's a tricky one to do. I gave up getting mine (2.2D in a 2014 Mazda 6) remapped after two failed attempts, by two different places... both with a good reputation.... even both assured me beforehand they could.

I found the paint and metal much thinner than other makes.

I read something about the previous models have some unusual suspension set up which caused the rear tyres to wear unevenly, badly on the inside IIRC. Easy thing to check anyway...

Thanks guys,

My other option is a same age Seat Leon 2.0TDI FR Tech Pack....

What would be peoples best choice bearing in mind I want something that's going to last me 5 years at lest and can fit 4 adults in comfortably on long journeys..

Thanks

The Mazda 2,2D does not have a good reputation including ones of this age (ignore anyone who says later examples are fine). Do a bit of research before you buy, not unknown for lunching its self. Petrols are fine.

I can see info on issues with the older 2.2d engine but I can't find anything relating to issues with the later, SkyActive-D engine?

Does anyone know of any issues with the later engine because I would rather know now before committing to buying one.

Thanks

As far as I'm aware there are no issues with the later Skyactive engine out of the two I'd take the Mazda over the Seat.
