Been looking at SUV type cars for around £10k-£13k and came across the Infiniti FX / QX70

I know literally nothing about them so was after some advice.

They are pretty challenging to look at, but seem a hell of a lot of car for the money. Having trouble finding out what the spec levels mean though - assuming GT Premium is the top dog? I'm also assuming the 3.0 diesels are from Merc? Anyone experience of the V8? angel

Always open to alternatives as well.

Cheers

cheesus christ... I wasn't too surprised when I saw that the car was from Croydon.

I dont have anything to add re the OP unfortunately, but Infiniti's do look tempting at the current price point, although their exit from the UK/EU makes me wary of going near one.

We bought one (62plate fx3.0 prem sport) with all the bells and whistles from an Infiniti dealer about 4 months ago.

Great motor!...suitably different, nissan under pinnings, very comfortable - and it’s not a Porsche!

For £11k can’t really go wrong.

Just remember that Infiniti are pulling out of the U.K. at the end of this year - and from that point all servicing/warranty work will be carried out by Nissan.

Thanks for the info Sir

Is the S Premium the top spec then? It seems in every other marque ‘S’ denotes the base spec, but Infiniti have decided to go the other way!

I was aware they’re pulling out - Nissan dealership is next door to my office though which I could be handy! The prices on the Q70 and Q50 make them unbelievable value, but need a hatch so looked at the Xs.

I've had a wee skim read of that thread - all it's done is made me want the V8 instead of a diesel! laugh

They're a very good car but not as spacious as you'd think they are infact the EX/QX50 is well worth a look as space wise they're very close & the smaller car is less challenging looks wise.

GT Premium is the top Spec on the rest of the range but S Premium is top on the FX & yes they run the same Mercedes diesel drivetrains as the ML, the V8 is a sweet unit but as expected it's juicy.

QX50's will mean a budget creep & some haggling:

FX GT Premium not quite top if the range but you're hardly lacking in toys:

A good alternative is the Jeep Grand Cherokee in Overland spec if you're going for a diesel or SRT8 if you want a petrol.

Thanks for the info ZX (as always - even when it's not for me!)

I had looked at Grand Cherokees as well, but there was something about the interiors I didn't like. That Summit looks decent though.

My head's been a bit all over the place with it. Spent today looking at 2-3 y.o Sportages for the same money - 4 years warranty could be nice! They're not half as tempting as an ageing, expensive to run Infiniti, Jeep or Merc GL though...

Also saved a couple of high mile LWB S classes on the AT app! laugh

beer I hear you about the Sportage but you'd need to be looking at the Sorento in KX-3 spec:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

but in all honesty I'd be taking the Infiniti over both at your price point especially as you have the nicer 3.0d also servicing wise any good Indy who knows Mercedes will be able to look after them.

I had also been looking at the Jeep as a possible alternative to a JLR product (RRS Disco 4) but read that the models pre-2014 when air suspension was introduced rode really badly??

Not sure if anyone can comment on that? There is a great GC thread on here with lots of praise for them, some from previous owners of JLR cars so feedback has to be credible.

I have to say bad ride isn't one of the things I'd level at the Jeep Grand Cherokee, I'd suggest test driving one before making up your mind.

The 3.0d is not a Mercedes engine. It's a Renault-Nissan engine. Mercedes dealers won't know anything about these.

Thanks for all the advice folks.

Looked seriously at the Infinitis but in particular the high tax and the fact that there was not a single one within 200 miles for me to even go and look at put me off. Heard mixed first hand reviews about the Grand Cherokees as well, although I still think they look a great option.

I then put my sensible pants back on and found a relatively local 2017 Mazda6 Sport Nav Tourer on 50k with the 2.2d 175 engine in it. All the toys you could want (heated electric seats, heated wheel, F&R sensors, reverse camera, HUD, etc) and year's warranty all for £11.5k. These definitely seem to be the bargain ~2-3 year old estate at the moment.

Resurrecting this old thread as I know ZX is a bit of an Infiniti expert. Giving some serious thought to getting a new to me car in the summer and the QX70 is up there. Are these still 'holding up'? Is the big diesel a solid enough motor? Any parts now difficult to get? Are the big tyres prohibitively expensive? These are not ULEZ compliant, correct? Are any years better than others?

Thanks in advance, peace and love, gbn x

They're all ULEZ compliant & they're still a good car, prices are stable, parts are still esy to obtain AutoDoc being one of the better ones.

Most Indy's are fine with them or if you can still get them serviced by most Nissan dealerships, tyres are no more expensive than any other SUV running the same size (unless you want the Infiniti specific tyres which have the foam in to make them quieter) wheels.

You can get a good S Premium for very sensible money:

I saw the Edinburgh car as its relatively local. Like the colour although I've not seen a colour I don't like!! A V8 would be the dream...we have a sensible car for daily commute and I doubt the V8 is THAT much thirstier than the big diesel driven at the speeds I drive at...slow and steady!!

Thanks ZX. I'm surprised the soot chuckers are ULEZ compliant, a few articles I've read suggest some are, some are not...?
