Bought a 2016 Discovery 4 HSE LUX this morning from a local main LR Dealer.
Poor service straight away as I was kept waiting for 50mins past my appointment time before being seen, car was paid for in full just needed to sign some papers. It also wasn't valeted very well so another wait while it got the once over....again.

So driving home about 25mins out on a nice country road and boom 'loss in performance' warning light and car goes into limp mode. Pulled over and dealer appeared with a brand new Disco for me to take home. Obviously kicked up a stink and mentioned rejecting the car, the fault is something to do with the turbo they were very apologetic and said they would get back to me once they got to the bottom of the fault.

I'm in two minds what to do next, if I get it back I want as a minimum another years warranty, it only comes with one year now but it was 2 years you got this only changed last month. The other part of me says reject it as confidence in the car and the dealer has gone.

Any words of wisdom or other things I should be asking for?.....or just bin it and find something else?!

Give them a chance to rectify the fault.

Brand new cars break. Old cars break. Granted the breakdown will have taken the shine off your new car day but stuff like this happens. Unless you drive an Infiniti.

I think you’re legally obliged to let them try and fix it, but, I’d run a bloody mile. These cars have a reputation, as you now know.
On the other hand, I’ve owned a D4 for 5 years and it’s not gone wrong once. On a sample of two I’d say we cancel each other out?

Probably due to it sitting for a while and/or not being driven properly.

Turbo actuators stick for fun if not "exercised" regularly.

Reset the light and give it a good run, it'll be fine.

Look at it this way, every time it breaks, you get a nice shiney new one to rock about in for a week or two. biggrin

I'm quite surprised they didn't just tell you to call Land Rover Assistance.

There's a very good reason why Hyundai/Kia give 5 and 7 year warranties and Land Rover don't.

The dealer has the right to try and fix it before agreeing for you to reject it, I believe.

My Freelander 2 borked its turbo actuator 2 weeks after buying it (2 years ago). Didn’t bother me, Land Rover assistance, brand new discovery HSE for a couple of weeks while the turbo was replaced (apparently they can’t just replace the actuator) and no problems since in the subsequent 2 years and 25k.

Just give them a chance to fix it. These things happen.

Lets be honest people don't buy LR for reliability, so i would get used to it.

Yes, they want you to stay in the dealer network for servicing.

Love selling these, they burn gas out of the front gates, and you never see em again.
Utmost reliability, unlike any JLR junk.

I'm not sure how similar they may be but the 3.0d in the Jaguar XF is a sequential twin turbo, with the secondary turbo coming into play at 2800rpm. If you are too sedate and don't take it above this rpm (which is fairly easy with the 8 speed transmission as it sits at around 1400rpm at 70mph) then the secondary turbo actuator can seize from lack of use.

On the plus side the actuator for the secondary turbo is separate and a fairly easy and inexpensive fix. Not so with the primary turbo though.

But I would be surprised at it being this considering the age of your car.

Disco 4, nothing would surprise me TBH. laugh
We flatly refuse to retail them or accept them in PX
Once bitten, twice shy, or in our case, bitten half a dozen times.
There's normally a reason why these things are part exchanged in....

I had a KIA Sorento, lasted two weeks before I drove halfway down the country and handed it back. I've never bought a car for such a short space of time. Viscous Coupling had failed, very common problem and very expensive to replace outside of warranty, over £3,000. Transfer case and rear diff not great either according to local motor engineer and also Kia service manager. They replaced them a lot he said and you'd be looking at over £10k cumulative.

Although I was kind of glad, the car was pretty nasty. New ones look quite nice from the outside but I'd still take a JLR car over KIA/Hyundai.

Normally they would have me call LR Assist he said but as I'd only just driven off the forecourt they came and got me, if I'd sat for hours waiting on them i would have been ever more pissed off.

Also, I am legally within my rights to reject the car and that came from the dealers mouth after I mentioned it.
