2007 Mercedes C180 Petrol, anything to look out for?

A friend is looking at one, an estate. Looks pretty nice in SE guise, auto and Xenons, leather and 90k on a 56 plate, trade sale. Any major issues with these?

I'm not sure if it's the same or similar engine but I just had a GLA with their 1.6 petrol engine and it was horrible. Very loud and rough and not very powerful either.

Colleague had an Auto one.
Was sold for Spares/Repairs around 150K due to Chain Stretch.
Don't know if a common problem.

Gave me a couple of lifts. Was quite smooth with reasonable performance.

From memory a well respected German car magazine thought it was one of the best built and reliable cars they ever put through their extra long endurance test.

I hired one in about 2007 and was impressed with the ride comfort, handling and strangely performance!

Basically the major faults to 300,000km were a timing chain and a starter motor.
Between 300,000 and 400,000km it has had no faults, it just got on with being one of the most reliable cars they ever tested.

Thank you, I will let my friend know about potential timing chain issues but it seems quite a rare problem. It's a 1.8 I believe.

Had a couple of cars with these engines. Low pressure supercharger means it doesn't need to be revved hard, and therefore lasts well. Nothing to do with any modern Merc including GLA.

Colleague is running an 04 saloon. On decent tyres, he was one of only 3 none 4WD cars that turned up for work in the snow.

I had the C180 1.8 litre in a much older shape, around 2000 I think the year was. Mine was an auto. It was pretty low on power but I really enjoyed the car as a daily driver, really comfortable and really just a nice car to drive, the auto box was very good for the age. Mine succumbed to rust in the end but I'd still have another as a cheap daily driver
