I’ve had a 1 series for the last 5 and a half years and I am ready for something different.

There’s only me and Mrs G 90% of the time but we will have a couple of small dogs in the next 6 months and every couple of months I do a round trip of 400 miles to bring my parents up for a week-10 day stay and take them back home.

I was thinking a used Porsche Macan or Cayenne to start with but the more I think about it the more I feel that putting £50k into such a vehicle is crazy for what effectively is a really lovely daily driver.

I’m happy to spend anywhere from £20-30k and possibly £40k if there was something that I could get excited about but after traipsing around loads of dealers I’m stuck as to where my money should go.

All adults are 5’9” or less (both ladies are only 5’0”) so I don’t need anything huge but I want something that offers refinement and some decent space.

Any thoughts?

Use a rental car for the parent trips.

Both excellent ideas. A 911 may me stretching it for the dogs but renting a second car is a great idea.

Leon Cupra estate? 4wd, 350 with the ABT map, and debadged quite stealthy.

530d Touring. Fast, luxurious, spacious, economical. With the x-drive or crossclimates you will be an unstoppable helmsman.

Funnily enough I am testing a Volvo XC40 later today. I still THINK I want something bigger but have to say that for a compact SUV it’s got plenty of room for us.

Probably come back with an RS6 knowing me wink

as an aside is a tall(ish) SUV going to cause your dogs joint problems jumping in and out of, actually could that also apply to your parents (I know my MiL really struggles with Mrs Iroc's GLC)

Would need to be the Cupra R then as only that came with the ABT option

I have to say I never started the process thinking Volvo but as soon as I drove it I knew it was right. It does look great too.
