Best second car to get?

i’m 19 with 2 years ncb, been driving 2 and a half years. I’ve been on the lookout for my second car as i’m getting fed up of my sh*tty 1.2 corsa, i’m just unsure on what would be the best car to get. I’m looking for a nippy car, preferably a hatchback and definitely not a fiesta st. I do like the look of corsa e vxr’s, however i know they still have the same p4 issue as corsa d’s plus the road tax on them is a lot. I’ve also been looking at the ibiza cupra 1.8tsi as they’re relatively cheap in price, cheap on insurance and cheap road tax but i’ve been struggling to find any on the market. A mk7 golf gti is also a car i’m considering. Just want to get some people’s opinions to be honest.
Cast your net wider and check out the insurance costs for a variety of cars. When I was your age I found there were higher-performing cars I could afford to buy and run as they were not generally driven by younger drivers, whereas any hotter small/funky cars had huge insurance costs.
Don't be afraid to get something older/higher mileage too.
ETA to be specific, I mean things like going for a Vectra instead of a Corsa, Passat instead of Seat Ibiza, Mazda 6 instead of Mazda 2. Statistics play on your side as fewer of the bigger (older driver) cars get wrapped around a lamppost at the local retail park.

Been in the same boat as you recently and decided to go for a corsa vxr nurburgring as I loved my first vxr with forged pistons and uprated injectors to near enough eliminate the piston 4 issue. If your budget suits it go for the nurburgring edition, the additional factory upgrades on the nurburgring such as the bilstein suspension, brembo brakes and limited slip differential make it a big improvement over the standard vxr.
If i were to get a corsa vxr, i’d most likely get a newer model simply because it’s easier to find one with lower mileage. Plus the majority of corsa e vxr’s come with the performance pack which comes with lsd, brembo’s and a better suspension so its essentially a nurburgring but most likely in a better condition. I do think the corsa d vxr looks a lot better though.
And to donk, i understand where you’re coming from as i know saloons seem to be cheaper than hatches on insurance. But ultimately i do want a smaller car to have a bit of fun in. Eventually i’ll move to bigger cars though.

It depends on how practical you need it to be. I was in the exact same position a year ago, the main 3 I was looking at were the MK7 GTI, Megane RS and the GT86. If you need something practical for giving your mates lifts or carrying lots of stuff around then the Golf is definitely the one to go for. If you aren't bothered about that stuff then go for the Megane that's what I did. Been totally reliable so far and is way better to drive, faster and more interesting than the Golf, just make sure that you get one with the cup chasis.

Wouldn’t mind a megane rs. The only thing that puts me off them is the interior, in my opinion its ugly as fk. The seats are nice though and if i were to get a golf i’d try and get the 3dr variant just because i prefer the look of them to the 5dr, so my mates would have to suffer getting in and out the back anyway haha.
