Seat Leon 2.0 TDI FR 550 - Need Advice!

Hi All,

Thinking of getting the following car:

Can anyone tell me if this has DPF and its a CR engine?
Also whats the reliability and MPG like?

It'll have a DPF, like a Golf does. That will be the main issue. I'm sure clutch and flywheel will be one to watch too.

DPF wont be an issue at all if its driven on regular longish journeys. Could be a PD or CR, not sure. 550 bhp sound fun though

Avoid the PD170 like the plague. The DPF system was a poor implementation which doesn’t work as well as modern setups. They are very prone to blockages etc. If you can stretch to a later CR then I’d recommend that.

Yeah I have read up on some horror stories.
Think stretching my budget is my only safe bet.

I had a PD170 in a 58 plate Seat Altea, so I’d say this Leon (on 08) is a PD rather than a CR.

Maybe I was just one of the unlucky ones, but it turned out to be the least reliable car I’ve had. DPF issues and safe mode activation despite almost all motorway miles.
Also found the delivery too peaky, terrible turbo lag meant it was all or nothing, which made it awkward in traffic. Have since driven the PD140, which was much more flexible.

If you go for it, it’s worth noting there was a piezo injector recall on selected 2.0 tdi engines of this era, our PD170 was eventually recalled.

Yep that will be the nasty 170 PD, avoid.

If you do have a look, most VAG cars have a badge denoting the engine code on the driver's door sill I think, at least the VWs do.

Skoda introduced the CR170 on a 57 plate with the octy VRS but still made the PD until 08 plates so this might be the same.

I know it’s irrelevant but that either is not a FR550 or has the wrong wheels.
