Vague what car request
Discussion
I need to get a car which will be used for commuting (only about 3 miles each way) but also for visiting clients (professional services role).
Budget is £25k max but ideally a lot less.
Family car is a Porsche Macan so not looking for an SUV.
I would like something fun to drive but which is not too “flash” as I will be visiting clients. Our chargeout rates are high enough without rubbing their noses in it!
Obvious choice is a Golf GTI and I do like them but have also had several over the years and fancy something different.
5 doors would be a plus but not essential and fuel economy is not a concern.
I would be swapping a Discovery 4 for whatever I get - although if I cannot find something better than the D4, I could just keep that. Fortunately I have got a good one which has never gone wrong!
Any suggestions welcome

Jaguar XF 5.0 V8. More understated than the XJ but will subtly impress, a great car to drive and a nice change from the usual Bavarian range.

A couple of great ideas there - the 308 and the q50 look very interesting. I had a 208 GTI before and that was a cracking little car so the 308 could be ideal.
The Q50 is a great left field choice- very understated but very quick
I think I will have a look at them.
Up GTI could be a possibility but probably a bit too small

If you want 4 doors and don’t mind the top of your price range, then a Maserati Ghibli would be an option. Pretty discreet looking (esp if parked nose in) and really lovely to commute in. Big fan of mine, always feels special to get in, and with the Sport button engaged, a hoot to drive too.

Serious case of PistonHeads-syndrome when a Porsche 911 is being suggested as an under the radar daily for visiting budget-conscious customers.
Note: just removed as hadn’t noticed the requirement for 4 doors, and replaced with a suggestion of a Maserati. True, not especially budget, but come on, live a little...dimots said:

Haha, I’m with you but I’m sure you can see the irony! No offence meant. The Ghibli is a nice looking car but in my budget would mean the diesel - not really my idea of a Maserati.
So far, the 308 GTI looks the most promising. Same concept as a Golf GTI but £5k cheaper - and I do like a French hot hatchback.
I really like the look of the Infinity but the closest hybrid version to me is about 350 miles away. The basic version is not potent enough.
I think I will also have a look at an A45 - although I am not the biggest fan of its looks - a bit too bling inside for me

I like those 308s they look understated in a good way.
The white one linked above looks good, almost like you'd need to look closely to notice it was a sporty model, the other i would avoid based purely on the advert, how a dealer can advertise a car for that much money without washing it first is beyond me, really annoys me lol

I'd suggest giving you're nearest Infiniti dealer a call as they normally have at least as they normally have one in stock, that way at least you can get a feel for one & decide if it's worth travelling to buy one.So far, the 308 GTI looks the most promising. There's also the Q70 with the same drivetrain but it's a bit big & (imo) not as smart looking:

Hatchback wise there's the Q30 Sport (which is basically an A250 with AWD) it's more of a warm hatch than hot but maybe worth a look if you're in the dealership:
