Evening all,

This section holds great knowledge for cars I had never thought of, I am not currently looking to change but probably like most on here, I really enjoy looking at and researching cars.

I have had previously;
Focus st 225,cupra r 225,golf gti edition 35,mk4 golf gti, numerous (too many) bmws (e36,e46,e39)

I currently have a lexus is250 barge, it's a excellent car but a bit slow for my liking, because I got the car for a steal I will be keeping it until it dies.

Criteria;
Saloon (maybe the right hatchback)
Manual
0-60 in 6seconds
Petrol
4/5doors
Budget would be 6K

Not bothered about tax,mpg or running costs providing it's reliable.

Car would be only be used the odd evening for a spirited drive and weekends.

No small hatchbacks as I need to be able to get 3 small children in, although 1 can go in the front.

Hmm, I was about to say a BMW 130i would seem to fit the bill - but it's another BMW and it's a Hatch! laugh

I would have thought a Jaguar XJ would have ticked most of those boxes.

Not a saloon, but Mazda 3 MPS might fit the brief. Five doors, 6.1s to 60.

Mazda 6 comes in MPS form too, and can be had in a saloon. Finding one might be a challenge, though. And it's the same engine as the 3 so half a second slower to 60, if that genuinely matters to you.

I wanted a 3MPS when we got our cupra but the misus at the time hated them, don't have a few piston problems?

Will research these now, thanks for the idea!

I don't know if your budget has any flex in it but, given your criteria, I would be tempted to consider these:

Saab 9-3 Aero X - 280hp & 4wd - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Vauxhall Insignia VXR - 320hp & 4wd - https://ebay.us/jkx3TT

Both are over your budget but a deal might well be possible to bring them closer.

I have looked at similar options recently and the Insignia VXR does seem to represent good value for what you get. Alternatively, a Vectra VXR might even fit the bill but they seem to be rare and a Vectra may not be all that appealing. That said, I quite like the look of this Vectra VXR estate if fast estates are your thing - https://ebay.us/8B1PZY

I have a MK1 3 MPS. Mine suffered the Conrod issue by presenting itself through the side of the Engine Block, luckily insurance paid out.

The MK2 is a different engine I believe but not sure it suffers the same issue.

Checked all options, audi s4 is in, it's finding one that has had the timing chains done as it's a very expensive repair otherwise.

Vectra vxr out, insignia vxr could be a option but currently out of budget.

Volvo is too old man for although incredibly fast.

Somewhere in my collection of cars I have a MK4 Mondeo 2.5T running 378bhp and I think it’s absolutely epic, and hardly anyone knows the car existed as a factory model (not with 378bhp!). I’ve been pondering rebuilding it to 500bhp+, but think that may start to detract from it in some ways though.

Fair enough, no more BMWs for you!

But any other options tend to struggle on the 0-60 in 6 seconds because they are mostly FWD and can't get the traction.

Mazda 6 MPS looks like a good option as I think they have 4WD, and IIRC the MPS only came as a 4 door as the shell was stiffer than the hatch.

Talking about Mazdas, how about an RX8?

Rx8 wouldn't fit 2 kids in the back and 1 in the front as far as I know frown

I've had an RX8, and it will. The unusual doors actually make it very practical for what it is.

The Chrysler isn't that quick though, despite the engine size (bet they sound good though).

Impreza WRX.

£6k is probably a bit low of a budget for a decent STi.
