120 Miles a day, Economical & Reliable
Discussion
Morning Phers,
I'm in a situation where for 5-6 months I'll need to be commuting around 120 miles a day.
Currently my car is an Alfia Giulia Veloce, and frankly the fuel economy is woeful and i don't want to put that sort of mileage on it.
I've never really been in a situation whereby i need a boring mileage muncher, and don't really know where to start.
Criteria:
- Budget 5-7k
- Economical ideally 45+ mpg (thinking diesel)
- a "reasonably nice interior" subjective i know
- 0-60 sub 10 seconds
Suggestions please

I was in a similar situation 1.5years ago. I do 180 miles a day and needed a daily. I went for a Honda Civic Coupe 1.6 auto. Cost me £1K low miles on it, auto, ac, 40mpg. Nippy, comfortable, honda reliablibility.
30K miles later nothing has gone wrong apart from the aerial, which is manual, wires came off. :-)

Maybe a bit out of left field but what about a fiat bravo.

Was you trying to find the worst possible car available? Awful choice for spending 120 mile a day.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
Obvious choice is a Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCI, which will be cheap, reliable, well equipped, very comfortable and still ok to drive.
Other option, Volvo of some sort, V70 D5 will likely tick all the boxes.

I do just shy of a 100 miles a day regularly in a fiat punto evo and find it comfortable. However having driven much worse, uncomfortable cars has maybe skewed my view on this. Mean't no harm, only trying to help.
Twas more of a shots fired than shooting at you.. I appreciate the suggestionRoger Woods said:
I was doing Crawley to Dover return in Volvo V70 d5, getting 50 mpg and worth nothing, I could not fault it, almost 200 miles a day.
I do 120 miles a day in a V70 D5 and it's perfect for the job. Great seats, great stereo, 40+mpg (auto). £2k will get you a decent one.I'd say a CLK 320/220 Sport with the Orthopedic seats as standard they're a very good car, you'll see a real world 42 mpg from the 320:

OP, why are you even bothering thinking about this?
This could be as low as 10k miles across 5 months and isn’t worth the fanny on to save what will probably amount to a few hundred quid in fuel. This saving will be immediately obliterated by the additional tax and insurance that you need and chances are you will lose a chunk of money via the buy and sell.
Just run your Giulia ffs

Im considering selling my e92 325d auto (remapped).
It'll be the top of your budget.
Should achieve sensible mpg on the motorway, I'm currently seeing 38mpg with mixed motorway and London driving.
Interior is oyster leather with bamboo wood, I like it.
0-60 definitely better than 10 seconds (320bhp/480ftlbs) .
PM if interested.
What's the point in a diesel if it only gets 38mpg :/It'll be the top of your budget.
