If you had 1.5k for a road trip car, what would you get?

Road trips are about the journey adn not so much about the destination. So many options,

It would have to be an AUTO!





What would you choose, if you had a 1.5k budget, any car you liKe.

It would have to tackle the motorway and twisties

I would say not the Mx5, unless it's a winter/autumn trip. The interiors are too warm.

The MR2 maybe.

The others are more if a luxury trip

Definitely! Big V8 for some occasion, huge comfort, cheap.

I would have chosen my BMW E46 325ti Sport that I sold for £1,450 last year - but it was a manual, which I preferred anyway!

Probably an MX-5, Auto's especially tend to be cheaper as not particularly desirable, depends on the route though.

My old mapped S320 CDI, used to be perfect on the motorway, had plenty of pull, and it was a laugh to throw about sideways. Uber comfortable and extremely easy to drive. Paid £1300 for it and got 50mpg on the motorway. Perfect road trip car.

You'd be lucky to get an XJ worth driving for that amount of money. There is plenty of crap out there.

The OP's suggested budget is really miniscule, to the point where I'd suggest anything that works for the cash is probably going to trump trying to get something sporty. I'd probably look for a Saab or an Omega for the cash. Manual, of course.
