GL, Q7, ML or Cayenne or...or....or....
Discussion
Starting the hunt for a new dog wagon/local roads are rubbish in winter car... Intention is to pay a bit more than shed money and buy something I can run for a good few years.
Want to spend sub £10k on the purchase.
Any thoughts and experiences on the following would be appreciated.
Needs to be big enough to carry a large dog and an enormous dog with ease.

- ML420 diesel or 500 petrol
- GL420
- Q7 - will likely be diesel and probably a 3.0 for my budget
- Cayenne - 3.6 or 4.8
- VW Toerag with the 4.2 tfsi

They are all going to be old and all at the prime age for throwing up eye watering bills.
The air suspension on the q7 is a prime one and a very hefty 4 figure bill to sort out.
Id go for the VW options or an estate (and I used to have a 4.2 Q7 that I took from 80 to 130k(ish) in 18mths)

Cayenne, but get a good one. I have a 2005 V8S 4.5 It's a great car, major service in March was 1000 quid mainly as it needed an aux belt tensioner £450 fitted. I run 15W/50 oil in it & change it yearly or sooner if I can. Pano roof has thrown a wobbler so that'll be for the local OPC to have a look at in March.
Had mine 2 1/2 years bought at 88K & now has over 120K on it. Lovely place to sit & drive, mine has most of the available options on it. May bin the PCM next year & put an android double DIN in it.

With your budget there are three cars that come to mind:
Grand Cherokee SRT8

Which ever one of them has a reliable and honest indie round the corner from you
I once bought a TDV8 RR Sport from new and ran it for 8 years
They serviced it to a higher standard than the dealer once its warranty ran out and were very straight with a few niggles I had with it which I imagine would have been an automatic ££££££ at the dealership
It was a great car and I really miss it
Id be happy with just about anything on your shortlist, but GL over ML all day long surely?
They may not be fashionable anymore but who doesnt love a BFO SUV?
Besides Greta......
Cheers
Everything bar bodywork I will do at home, so not too bothered about bills - obviously l'm making an allowance in my overall budget for big items the previous owners might neglect to mention, or I fail to spot...
Like the Infiniti stuff, but they are too small sadly.
The SRTs might be worth further consideration.....
