CAT N/S car with no history

Hi all,

The car I'm looking at is 67 plate Peugeot 2008 GT line with 3000 miles CAT S you can find it on e-bay if interested to see. Car looks very well repaired (checked with mechanic), but Service book is empty as it's only 3000 miles car (probably been clocked), no pictures of damage before repairing, no receipts of repairs (as repaired in local garage). Is there a way to find some information about it if I would have VIN number? MOT shows 3000 miles as it was MOTed after repairs.
Why would someone hide everything like that? If it's fixed properly that's all fine.
What's your thoughts about it?

I've always found it very strange how CAT N/S cars are often very low mileage and usually with no history...

I buy about 70 Salvage cars a year and 95% of them come with No history and only 1 Key. If the previous Keepers have left them in the car its a bonus, but most often the insurers request them and dont forward them on. I herd but but not sure if true something to do with GDPR?

One of the reasons a car is written off is it is a fairly new car and the parts are too expensive or indeed in poor supply (we waited 2 months! on a Zafira boot lid once!) and it is cheaper on balance to write it. Often this means a car can sit for quite a large period of time with the insurers estimators (I've seen years) especially if there are legal issues with the claim or a debate over blame.

Often when people crash they only have one key with them and the service book at home, they may never see the car again after it is towed away and even if they went to collect possessions from it its unlikely they would be kind enough to drop off the second key and service book!

If you call Peugeot with the reg they should be able to tell you what if any work has been done.

A lot of cars (I'm most familiar technically with VW / Audi) have a facility via the Obd to give an estimated actual mileage its usually one of the first things I check on a car to see if it matches the dash mileage, maybe this can be done with the Peugeot!

Most main dealers have to remove / destroy invoices & receipts within the service history to protect previous owners data however the service books are officially ok to be left but I would probably be down to individual intermediary companies!
