Mercedes CLS: Good Value for Money?

Been looking for a motorway mile-muncher and have been looking at the Mercedes Benz CLS. I’d be considering 2015 cars onwards.
Question, why are these cars so cheap? Are they dogs to drive? Are they costly to run/ maintain? The last version was the same. It’s value plummeted.
Thoughts?
Any owners out there with some experience of the car?

I had a CLS 350d Shooting Break for 12 months and 14,000 miles. Av 37 mpg would do mid 40’s on a run.
Basically an E class Merc but with nicer trim. A nice place to eat away at the miles. Standard Merc prices for service - fixed plan is £39 a month. 12 month intervals or 15,500 miles.
You only get 4 seats in the Saloon and you can’t put a tow-bar on them. The shooting Break is pretty practical as a full 5 seater with decent load space but small doors and low roofline a bit of hassle if you are 6ft plus.
The Intelligent Light System is well worth having. Look for Premium or Prem. Plus spec. Driving Assistance Package is rare to find but a real good option.

I've had a 2017 CLS 220d Shooting Brake for about 14 months now. In short, yes, they're good value and a great motorway mile muncher.
I think they just aren't on many people's radar used so perhaps hang around for a bit. I was looking for a replacement for an E Class estate and hadn't considered one until I saw it on the local dealer forecourt - it was a similar price to an E estate of the same age and mileage, despite the original list being considerably greater and being nicer inside IMO. I think they are overpriced at full list however.
As said above, basically drives like a slightly tauter E Class, servicing is similar to an E Class, no horror stories AFAIK. Shooting Brake gets you a surprisingly capacious boot, rear self-levelling air suspension and 3 seats in the back - though putting a child seat and occupant in is a real pain due to the lower sloping roofline.
Mine is a premium so has lots of nice things I find useful - the amazing Intelligent Lighting System, electric tilt/slide sunroof, memory seats/mirrors/headrests, COMAND (sat nav, can play music on spotify via bluetooth etc).
Don't buy the 220d. Or the 250d for that matter. Honestly they are actually fine, get 45-55mpg, you can make good progress, overtake safely, they're not even that noisy in my opinion, but you'll always wish you had an extra 2 cylinders - I do. I think the 6 cylinder cars also got the newer 9 speed autobox sooner than the 4 cylinder cars which had the 7G+.

I had an almost brand new one as a courtesy car and didn't like it. It was the four cylinder diesel and had dangerous levels of turbo lag in my opinion. Interior was nice but squeaked and rattled, the rear sensor thing in the roof had fallen out as well and I had try and jam it back in. It was the AMG version and very firm, this may have been the cause behind a lot of the interior issues.
Yep, the ride in the AMG line (or whatever its called) with the 19 inch wheels is firm around town, and mine does have a few minor squeaks and rattles from the A pillars and dash, which vary dependent on ambient temperature.
I dont feel there's any 'turbo lag', not that I would term it dangerous if there was. The engine and 'box combo is used in C, E, CLS etc and I've never heard anyone say that. I've heard some say its sluggish to pull off from a standstill but that's as in standard mode the 7G box pulls away in 2nd, simply drive in sport, or use the paddles to blip down into 1st.

Think it's the poor rear headroom which means that you're knocking families with bigger sprogs and executive taxi buyers out of the second hand market.
Conversely, it could be the demand for the E class as Taxis that is driving the comparative price of them up.
Always liked them - never knew quite why.

A couple of years ago I got a new E Class courtesy car which I was convinced said 250CDi on the paperwork. I'd read the 250CDi could be a bit harsh and I could feel it was a bit, but thought it wasn't bad.
