Hi Guys

Wanting help with my next purchase.

I'm a dad with 2 young kids (5 and 2 years old). I need a practical car, probably won't do a tonne of miles and will mainly sit on the drive as I will have a van.
Looking for cheap to run, tax, service and maintain and maybe have a little fun with! 5 door ideally.
Budget around the 12k mark. Was thinking an A class as I've had one before and liked it or maybe a golf?! Nothing overly chav lol

What are peoples thoughts?
Cheers

Kia Ceed ... yes its in a different class but you will get a better warranty that will ultimately be cheaper to run. Out of those two i'd pick the Merc although the Golf will offer more space.

Check out the Seat Leon FR. Comes with fairly nippy petrol engines and sporty styling. Similar to a golf inside.

Mainly sit on the drive? Reliability key - go Toyota Auris, Honda Civic, Mazda 3, or Kia/Hyundai. Petrol, not diesel.

I’ve had a 64 plate A200d and a 66 plate Golf GTD.
The Golf is much better to drive and much more spacious both for boot and rear passengers.
I did have fewer niggles with the Merc though.

I've had an A class before so I know what I'm getting. The golfs look quite nice but I want something that puts a smile on the face as well. Anyone have any experience with the Astra GTC or focus ST? Focus looks a bit boring. What would be peoples pick in the hatch market? 5 door a preference as I have a two year old but I would be happy to struggle for the right car lol.
