I’ve suddenly decided that my R8 is wasting space in my garage, where I can only fit two cars and where it gets too little use, and on a whim am going to look at a new SL63 to put in its place.

It’s of course far less of a spirts car, but I must admit that I didn’t enjoy the R8 on my last long trip, and suspect that the SL will get more use and be very enjoyable.

Does anyone have any comments for or against?

I’ve had an SLK 55 before which I loved. Obviously an AMG GT roadster is an option, so I’ll need to think carefully before buying.

I've nothing to add apart from a quick look on AutoTrader (I wanted to see what torque these produce) indicates that they're available with huge discounts...

Massively different from the R8 I presume..

Yes, very different indeed to the R8, pretty much nothing in common.

I tried it, liked it, and so bought it. The trade-in price for the R8 didn’t work for me (it’s a 2013 Plus) at £48k so I’m keeping it for now.

Pick the new on up on Monday.

Fair play. The depreciation these type of cars suffer from is truly horrendous. I don't know how anyone can face losing that type of money on a car. But it's nice to see cars like this around so...thank you for your service.

I’ve nothing to offer other than saying the cabin in the S class is magnificent. Enjoy!

There are a few round at the moment at very heavy discounts, which is what caught my eye. I’m not sure what list price is but they can he had new for under £80,000 at the moment.
