When to sell car?

I’ve seen a few of these before, but kind of older - I’m about to graduate from uni, and I’m thinking I might need a bigger car.
I’ve had an A1 for about 4 years now, absolutely loved it and it’s never had a major problem (bar an AC compressor getting a stone chip). However, I’ve put 45k miles on it and I think it may be time to switch up.
I guess what I’m asking is, when do you guys reckon is the sweet spot for selling a car? According to webuyanycar, the A1’s only depreciated 4K since I bought it, and I’m thinking that the slower depreciation may be outweighed by upcoming service expenses - I have an extended warranty and service pack, but that runs out in April 2020.
Side note - I’ve found a perfect BMW X1 with 20k miles, or an A3 etron with 45k, that’s what I’m torn between in terms of a replacement.

looks to me you just want a change in car....so change it
Having a stone chip in the a/c is not a reason to sell it....could happen two weeks in a row....maybe drive a bit further back from vehicle in front?
I run a 20 year old car....can't see any reason to change it so it stays
I'd sell your merc when it decides to cost you too much, is a 1 series any bigger? doubt it....but be more fun to drive?
Spend the money on beer good food, and bad women and keep the merc

Yeah, to be honest the A3 isn’t much bigger - but because it’s a plug-in hybrid and I do lots of journeys under 20 miles, I could pretty much use it as electric, which I figured would save me about 1k each year. Seeing as it’s only 3k cost of trade I thought it makes some sense if I’m planning on keeping it another 4 years.
BMW is definitely more of a heart thing (if you can say that about buying a compact SUV 😂) - it’s marginally more efficient, but 6k cost of change - tbh I think you’ve convinced me to stick with my A1 though ahha
