City councils still have a legal duty to clean up their air, the Bristol diesel ban is by the City Council, not by the national government. So that is still going ahead.
Now I agree that had Corbyn taken over, the medium-term outlook for ICE vehicles would be less positive, however we've had Tory-led governments for nine years now, and in terms of motoring I really don't see any reason to expect dramatic change from the existing policies.
I reckon:
Pre-Euro4 petrols and pre-Euro6d diesels can expect to be increasingly restricted, taxed or banned from many major cities.
Newer petrol cars are likely to be ok
The fate of newer diesel cars depends whether the new Euro6d standard can establish credibility with policymakers, that cars thus certified are genuinely that clean in real-world use. If not, expect bans to be extended further on newer diesels and perhaps also further petrol car categories. OTOH if the newer diesels do result in a drop in NOx levels in cities, existing restrictions may not be tightened to ever newer cars.
In the long run BEV is going to be the answer, I would personally give serious consideration to whether a Tesla would meet your needs, as they have multiple running cost advantages and are on the 'right side' of current and upcoming policies.
EVs? GIve me a Tesla with a guaranteed 400 mile range in the rain, snow, ice and sub freezing temps that will retain charge indefinitely and can be fully recharged in the time it takes to fill a petrol tank (for ~30k GBP) and I'm in. I'm sure it'll happen and I like the performance, but it's not quite there yet imo.

Its still the same shambles, there are just some new people there now.If Boris.gov ignore eco/green issues and worse still, go the other way there will be a backlash and push those already telling us to "put politicians against the wall" will become ever more extremist, which will drag moderates with them slowly.
What they should be looking at is the utter waste of money time and effort thats being put into inefficient "green" plans. Smart Meters ? disaster. Plastic bag charges - haven't worked (plastic waste has gone up). Road policies are daft - rather than getting traffic moving to reduce pollution we're just installing cycle lanes everywhere - useless if you're trying to get to the motorway to get to work...
By all means lets try and be more environmentally conscious but lets so sensible things instead of pretending.

The thing we need to be aware of is the pound against the dollar as that is what fuel is traded in.
I think that the pound shot up but now it’s gone back down again.
As I said elsewhere it does not matter who you vote for, the government will get in and someone will benefit. However, chances are not many are members of this forum.
