4WD 4x4 for towing livestock trailer

Went to look at a Hilux today. Heard they’re pretty good for what I need (to tow a livestock trailer) but the frame looked a little rusty. 2015 model. Don’t want to tow over fields all the time, just need something reliable to take the weight.
Any recommendations? Can’t afford a Defender or anything. Looking around 10-12k.

The Mk4 Ford Ranger could easily be found within budget. It's the pre-2012 version and the final Mazda built version that can be had with a decent 3.0 or 2.5 diesel. Very capable, very few inherent issues, has standard rear LSD, underbody protection and tows 3.5 tonnes.

Discovery 4 could be a good shout? Can tow 3.5T with a fixed bar and plentiful in your budget.

My brother-in-law was in the same predicament, came down to a Ranger or Amarok - would have been happy with either but the right Amarok came along so he bought that.
He loves it by all accounts and has had no problems at all with it over the last couple of years.
One of his employees bought a Ranger at roughly the same time and that has been off the road (or field) on more than one occasion.

The ranger 3.2 pulled a train in Australia if I remember right

Pick up would be most useful as can then chuck the odd few sheep in the back if needs be.
I saw an Amarok at the place we went. Same price but a couple of years older and a bad paint repair job around one of the rear handles. Only a 2 litre as well. Guy seemed to suggest these were “for show” rather than doing a proper job. Not seen any 3 litres around. Do like a VW. Had two last me 20 years without many issues.

Pulling a train isn't all that. They have next to no drag on steel wheels and steel rails.

Isuzu Dmax is always a contender when looking for a truck.

If you want something nice inside then look for a Utah spec. I think they all have 3.5ton towing limit.

Have yet to incur any issues with ours.

HiLux or Isuzu is what all the farmers use round here.
